As far as your list, Mark is in semi retirement and probably the best followed by Burton. Truex is a distant 3rd and putting Menard on there was a joke right? Not to mention you asked for modern era and the drivers you have, I would say are from three different eras, although they all are still racing. There era is defined by when they started racing and they have to adapt to the newer eras as they come along (and I'm not talking about Winston, Nextel, ect.). Mark has been through four eras. 81-94 then racing changed some 95-2000 then NASCAR changed 01-03, then the chase format 03-07 and there is a new era getting ready to start in 08. Now even though Burton started in 94 (and won the ROY) I wouldn't say that was enough to consider him part of that era. So he would have gone through three different eras. Both Truex and Menard are only one era in. So the best in modern era (starting in 03 and up) I would have to say...Clint Bowyer or Carl Edwards maybe Truex. Who is the best drivers that are still racing regardless of when they started that would be in no particular order Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Robby Gordon.

For drivers whose whole career was during the modern era you HAVE to start with Dale Earnhardt Sr. Then it goes Jeff Gordon and DW. After those 3 it gets tough but I would probably put Jimmie Johnson 4th right now because of the dominance he's shown in the relatively short amount of time he's been driving in the cup series. Everybody is entitled to their opinion BUT Paul Menard? Where does that come from, other than you must REALLY like DEI?

Maybe not for a whole era. Not just yet. But Jimmie Johnson has gotta be the best current NASCAR race car driver. I compare Jimmie Johnson to Tony Stewart. But Jimmie just won a phenominal 10 races in one season. But keep an eye on your guys. I think DEI is going to put on a spectacular display of racing in 2008, and I know i'll be watching them.

Best NASCAR modern Era drivers based on pure driving talent...

-Jeff Gordon (no need to explain...)
-Tony Stewart (no need to explain...)
-Kyle Busch (The guy can drive an ill handling car straight to victory lane...)
-Jimmie Johnson (Quickly becoming one of the best to come along in the Cup series.)
-Jamie McMurray (He is probably the most underrated guy in the whole series today. If late race luck would have been on his side in years past he would have several more wins to his name right now.)

Lets see, the "Modern Era" started in !972. If your going from there and looking at just the wins D.W is the alltime winning leader(IN THE MODERN ERA from 72) He has 84 wins, Dale Sr had 76 wins and Petty had 60 wins.
If your looking for the best "driver" (in my opinion) the modern era it has to be Dale Sr and Jeff Gordon.

Dale Earnhardt Sr., without a doubt! (since 1972). But, since you are 15, what do you consider to be the modern era?

I would say Busch or Truex, they look like the next Gordon and Johnson if you ask me! The Hendrick boys are gonna do outstanding this year though, gonna be hard to beat them.
