It might be a ganglion cyst. Does it move around? If it is one the top of your wrist, there is a high likelihood it is a ganglion cyst. Check with your doctor to make sure, but these cysts generally don't have to be removed unless they are causing you pain or really bother you. They often go away on their own and sometimes can come back in the same place even if you have it drained..

it totally sounds like a ganglion. I had one on each wrist for SO long as a teen and young adult. They hurt, but I never had them removed as they won't gaurantee that they won't come back. They finally went away on their own. A little fun info- in the "old" days they used to get rid of them by smashing them with a bible!!!

Sounds like a ganglion cyst. They are fairly common and match the size and location you describe. Your doctor can drain it easily and give you information on how to avoid its reoccurring.

My aunt had one removed. Hers didn't come back, but she's had a bunch of other cysts in her lymph areas. If I were you, I would be vigilant about seeing a doctor when you have pains as you get older. You might be more cyst-prone. Cysts sometimes go hand in hand with cancers.

(smashed with a bible! OUCH!)

It may be a sub-cutaneous cyst which are usually harmless and easily removed by a dermatologist. Have a primary care physician check it out though.

As nanny411 says, it sounds like a ganglion. My wife had one and the doctors advice was, as she says "bash it with the family bible". After much bashing (great fun) it vanished.

Does it hurt, or was there a recent injury to it? If not, it could be a lipid - a fatty deposit under your skin. I have them, for me they are hereditary.
