Who thinks the ban on hugging is a good or bad thing?

Im against it, Im 18 and Im a senior and I hug my friends at school and I find nothing wrong with it?

High school and middle school are tough and sometimes just that hug can help, so I don't think we should take that away.

If you are for the hugging ban, list your reasons.

MissBean: Middle school and high school are also where we gain our social skills, where we learn how to interact with people. And who says people don't hug each other at work?

Most the time when Im giving my friends hugs its in between classes, in between classes IS A BREAK!!!! Its not for learning, its a brief period where you can relax and get your books for you nxt class.

Some schools are banning hugging. HUGGING. They aren't just saying no kissing blah blah blah. They are taking away hugging too.

This hugging ban is forcing people to become even more distant from each other and is promoting the wrong idea. Instead of saying NO TOUCHING AT ALL, why not raise your children so they dont innappropriatly touch people.

I agree with you, it's a horrible thing to ban. When I read about the young student a couple of months ago who was suspended for hugging her friend after school, I just thought ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

It's a very sick world when hugging in schools is banned and yet some schools are openly passing out birth control.

Ban things like violence, bullying... etc...

I'm not necessarily for a hugging ban, but I can see the rational for one from the administration's perspective.

School is supposed to be a place to learn. You aren't there to socialize or talk out all your problems with your friends. You are there to work. Especially in high school, you are meant to learn that there is a time and a place for everything, and school is a place where you are meant to focus on your studies. When you grow up and get a real job, you can't be hugging people at work. If you are having a tough day, you suck it up, do your job, and hug someone when you go home.

The other reason schools don't like hugging, is that sometimes, between boyfriends and girlfriends, it comes with some inappropriate touching, or, because it is sooooo easy for people to file sexual harrassment charges these days. It is better for the schools from the legal standpoint to just nip it in the bud altogether.

While I completely understand MissBean's post, I gotta add that socialization is all important in schools. That's the reasoning many school administrators and teachers claim why homeschooling should be eliminated.

I think a ban on hugging is stupid at best.

I totally agree with you! I'm 16 and I'm a sophomore. I hug my friends all the time! To ban it would be just stupid. There's nothing inappropriate about it if it's just a friendly hug. I even have a guy friend that I always hug, but it's just because we're really good friends!

I think that is a bad thing sometimes you do need a hug bet when you are going to extreem and necking (making out or all over someone) that is when it is not exceptible in school. When i went to school I hugged my friends so i find nothing wrong with it but kids these days are going over board with it. I think that is the message that school administration is try to send.
