Because too many Americans are overly reliant on ancient myths and superstition for answering existential questions. If we're not careful, we'll turn into an Iran-like theocracy, but with over 6,000 nuclear weapons in our arsenal. That's a recipe for nuclear winter.

The easy answer is that since more than 90% believe in God, that means that about 40% don't have much faith.

Or they may just be susceptible to the axiom of the lie is a truth if you say it often and strongly people will believe. That leaves the Christian with a challenge. Can the Christian out preach their faith over the evolutionists preaching on their faith.

Since, I just gave myself away, I have more sound evidence for my faith than the evolutionist has in his faith. Who of you are up for a serious challenge with out all of this foolishness?

After 30 minuets the best 6 are just a bunch of unsubstantiated hogwash statements of cliche.

After 50 minuets it is 8.

After 2 hours 9 of 10.

After 1day we are better, only 5.

Sorry Torah that you got bumped.

Let us get started on a real search for the answer.

1) Scientific theory is unproven, check our science books.

2) Darwin rejected his own conclusions.

3) Watch the science shows. They use the words; believe, we think, it may have been,it is possible that ect. more than one can count.

4) Matter can not produce itself from nothing, a science fact.

5) Thermodynamic law - All things are in a state of degradation. Matter does not get more complex with out outside influence.

6) The atom with its nucleus is the same model as a solar system, galaxy, and universe. A central core with an outer surrounding mass. It is an interesting continuity of design.

7) Probability factors are so high as to produce one animal from a completely different animal that any reasonable person would find it improbable.

8) The universe is so complex, yet in harmonious existence, that it asks the question who made it.

There is more, but I will let you all chew on that for a while.

by fact there's no evidence of stupid evolution particularly. I advise think of roughly it. while snakes existed before they had ft. Then they developed and haven't any ft to right this moment time. If people developed from some monkeys in accordance to that good judgment monkeys could no longer exist, yet for some reason monkeys are nevertheless on the earth. Evolution is a pile for sh1t by fact of this it quite is referred to as the theory of evolution. It hasn't been made a regulation or actuality yet for this reason there's no evidence it quite is actual. Which it quite is no longer.

well CL is right many people believe in authority teaching. many people do not look past what their teachers tell them. had many teachers that have taught straight out lies. had a teacher once say that coal miners made 80 dollars an hour and get paid from when they leave home till they returned.use to believe in evolution till read somethings Dawkins , Gould and Darwin said. they all have said the fossill record does not match evolution. then read about DNA and RNA and really shot down the theory. here is one that really pushed me away. that the world has a complex design but it happened by chance.

To begin with, most of us don't like the concept that we're descended from apes. That said, It is common to speak of scientific truth versus Torah (the Jewish Bible, or 5 Books of Moses,) claims but I deliberately chose the terms scientific FINDINGS versus Torah truths. How do we reconcile the Torah description of Genesis with modern scientific theory? There is a discrepancy of several billion years between the two.

First I would like to qualify the question then I would like to offer a number of possible answers. Please bear with me and read it through to the end.

I begin by touching on the Jewish approach to the general question of scientific findings in contradistinction to Torah truths. It is common to speak of scientific truth versus Torah claims but I deliberately chose the terms scientific findings versus Torah truths because science can do no more than find or discover information as Scientists come across it.

There is no question that the information we know is less than the information we don't. As we continue to discover newer and newer secrets (otherwise known as findings) our ideas take on new dimensions and our picture of the universe takes on greater shape. At every point in the process we must remember that we are still on the road to discovery. We still don't have all the information, our scientific picture is still incomplete, and as we gather more information and newer discoveries, our understanding of the universe will change again.

Truths we held sacred in Galileo's day were found to be false in Newton's day. Truths held sacred in Newton's day were debunked in Einstein's day. Some of what we did not understand in Einstein's day is now much better understood. Scientific knowledge has evolved a great deal from the early days of Galileo, to the days of Sir Isaac Newton, and even since the era of Albert Einstein. Truths we held sacred in Galileo's day were found to be false in Newton's day. Truths held sacred in Newton's day were debunked in Einstein's day. Some of what we did not understand in Einstein's day is now much better understood. Science is continuously evolving and there is no telling when and where it will end.

It is clear that one can never lay claim to absolute truth when relying on scientific evidence because the truth as we know it today will in all probability evolve further. It is true that many scientific theories have been proven in laboratory experimentation but even those theories cannot withstand the test of time. As we discover newer information it may very well affect our understanding of the experiments conducted, of the results achieved, and thus affect the conclusions reached.

Contrast this uncertainty with Torah. Torah does not propose theories, attempt to corroborate them and then claim understanding, Torah lays claim to the truth from the very start. I grant that it requires a leap of faith to accept that the word of Torah is the word of G-d but irrespective of the popularity of this belief the Torah does lay claim to eternal truths; truths that need not be proven for they are known to the author of those truths. G-d created the world, knows more about it than any other, and reported those truths to us in the Torah.

As such it must be remembered that when we compare Torah to science we can at best only ask how today's understanding of science matches up against the eternal truth declared in Torah.

Because to them science is magic, and the feelings they have every day are more real than what some scientist does in a lab.

This is why 'real' science education is so important.
If people understood what science is, they wouldn't be fooled by creationist nonsense.

Is it that many? I'm really not surprised. It is self-imposed ignorance. There is plenty of evidence to support the theory of evolution, but people reject it because their parents/ churches tell them to.

Since we are a 2/3s Xtian nation, shouldn't you be asking about those believers that aren't toeing the party line?

But to answer your question (with no citation), it doesn't surprise me that 1/2 this country is "igrint".
We elected Pres. Cheney's trained monkey, right?
