Ezekiel 18:20 tells us, “The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous man will be credited to him, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against him.” Exodus 20:5 declares, "You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me." Do these Scriptures contradict each other?
The difference between Ezekiel 18:20 and Exodus 20:5 is that while Exodus 20:5 is speaking of consequences, Ezekiel 18:20 is speaking of punishment. Exodus 20:5 is saying that the consequences of a man’s sins can be felt generations later. Ezekiel 18:20 is saying that sons should not be punished for their father’s sins. God does not hold us accountable for the sins of our parents, but we sometimes suffer as a result of the sins our parents committed.

That's a very old style way of thinking, isn't it?!
I am the mother of a severally handicapped son who is now 22 years old. I would have never learned SO MUCH about life as I have had it not been for the wonderful opportunity of raising him.
Children are being born into an imperfect world, with sin. The further along this system of things is allowed to go on, then the more disease, medical mishaps, etc will continue to happen. This is not what God intended for mankind!
In fact, having a disabled child is what has kept me even closer to God, Jehovah, because his promise is to do away with wickedness and sin - and that would mean I would get to see my son in his meant-to-be state - walking and talking as a wonderful young man :-)
And a very big way to look at this is...if my beliefs are wrong - there is absolutely nothing to lose for living in a way that pleases God...man is just hurting and destructing himself more and more. So if all the teachings about Jehovah's Witnesses are true - I and my son have SO MUCH to look forward to! It's sooo worth it to wait and find out :-)

It depends on what you want to believe.
I have read that we reap what we sew.
Perhaps this answer could explain it to you.
When a Child is born with a handicap and the parent is blessed with being a care taker, it can be because in another life time, the parent caused who is now burdened with this child may have abandoned the child before. May have crippled another child in the past life and now has to take responsibility to care for this child as a debt to be paid. If you make fun of a crippled child, it is possible you may come back and be crippled, just so you can experience the hardship yourself. There are many reasons and the Jesus was questioned about this and he said it was to glorify God because he knew that a healing would take place and this would be seen as a Miracle and people would praise God for it. There was a belief back then that a problem was a curse from previous generations. They were very superstitious back then. We are all actors in a play and we are here for lessons we need to advance spiritually.

No, God does not punish parents by given them disabled children. There will be a time when God restores everyone to perfection. We all need to keep on the watch and continue to pray for that day (the Lord's Prayer, Our Father)

For some reason, people are under the impression that God promised that the world would be perfect; no pain, suffering, etc. He did not promise this world to be this way, so we shouldn't expect everything to be the way we feel it should be. This is not heaven; this is earth, a sinful earth with pain, diseases, innocent deaths, handicaps, etc...it is unfortunate but true.

No, but that is how satan wants people to think, that God would do such cruel things, and torture people forever in a burning hell for being wicked, But God is Love(1John4:8) Love is merciful and shows pity. A loving God will punish his children, but he would never ever torture them.

I know there's also a scripture where Jesus' disciples asked why this man was blind, what it because of his sins or his parents sin? Jesus answered, "No. It is to bring glory to the Father."
Disabled children my not have a whole body as you and I do...but their spirit is whole. They teach us so much...

The bible says some creepy stuff.
I guess it all depends on if you believe the stuff.
I dont think so.
And besides, its not all so black and white...everything has a little good in it and a little bad.

God allows the laws of nature to occur. I am not disabled due to my parents sin. I'm disabled due to a genetic disease they neither one have, nor do my siblings.
