No Jew believes that Jesus was the messiah and the son of G-d.
'messianic jews' are not Jews - they are CHRISTIANS.
Only one thing defines who is Jewish, and that is Torah. A person cannot be both Jewish and Christian, any more than a person can be both Muslim and Catholic.
'messianic jews' should be proud of their true religion and define themselves honestly as Christians. Then again, given that these groups began as attempts to lure 'real' Jews to Christianity, perhaps it's not surprising.
Again and again on this site, I am amazed to read posts by some Christians who claim they get to define who is Jewish. But whether they like it or not, Christianity does not get to define this. Only Jewish law does.
Christian beliefs are in direct OPPOSITION to those of Judaism. If a person embraces Jesus as messiah etc, then they are an apostate in the view of Judaism and no longer an active member of the Jewish community.
Oh, and to those people who say you can be 'religiously Christian but ethnically Jewish' - RUBBISH.
Name one Jewish festival that is 'ethnic' in nature, and not religious?
There isn't one.
NADINE - EXCELLENT POINT!
COMMENT TO 'ARCTIC' - you are not a 'messianic jew', you are a CHRISTIAN. You say you want to keep a 'Jewish lifestyle'. Well, I eat Chinese food a lot, I read about their way of life and philosophy; does that make me Chinese?
You can't have it both ways: either get off the fence and investigate converting to Judaism if you love it that much, or accept that you are a Christian. You do not get to define who is Jewish - only Judaism can do that.

No Jewish person believes in JC. If they do, they are Xian and not Jews. Judaism is not a race. If you adopt a faith other than Judaism you become an apostate Jew and are not accepted as Jewish and cannot participate in the Jewish community or life. Jews also do not accept JC as a prophet or a teacher. People who are not Jews should not try to tell other people what Jews believe, because usually, they are wrong, as is the truth in many answers on this page. Jews don't believe JC was a prophet, messiah, OR a god--if they do, they are apostates.
Messianic "Jews", Hebraic Xians, fulfilled "Jews" completed "Jews"--whatever they choose to call themselves, these people are not Jews. They are Xians who pretend to be Jews in order to convert Jews to Xianity. It is a deceptive and morally apprehensible practice, and NO Jewish branch accepts these people as Jews.
I've met the same amount and they ALL had an agenda. Characterized by their small pamphlets they would pass out to the Jewish teens at my school inviting them to an event--and only in the corner, in tiny letters, would they say they were a messianic synagogue. My friend went once and she said that it was just two hours of "how to witness to Jews" talk. Also, eating kosher and "keeping" the Sabbath doesn't make one a Jew any more than praying 5 times a day makes one a Muslim.
nanny411 aww thank you so much, that means so much to me

Nope. The belief that God would become human is the ultimate heresy! The messiah will be a great leader (human) who will bring peace on earth for all mankind. Even you could be that messiah. What are you doing to bring peace on earth?
BTW, Christ means "annointed" so the literal answer would be "yes." We believe many, many kings have been annointed over the centuries, but NONE of them have been divine. Many peoples (Egyptians for one) have thought their kings to be divine, but common sense tells us they weren't.
Messianic Jews and Jews-for-Jesus are two more of those pesky door-to-door peddlers of Christianity. Will Christians ever stop imposing their religion on the rest of us? Isn't living as an example of Christianity enough? We can see what Christianity is and we don't want any part of it! Why don't Christians concentrate on returning their holy days to religious celebrations rather than the obnoxious celebrations they've turned into with Santa Claus and the Easter bunny?

One of the foundations of Judaism is the belief in the Messiah. Christians believe the Messiah has already come, and that His name was Yeshua, commonly known as Jesus Christ, known as the man who was on earth about 2000 years ago. Judaism as a religion can be seen to support this Messiah in several places, specifically Zecheriah, chapter 9 to name one. Other books of the OT Bible that refer to the Messiah directly are Daniel, Joel, and Isaiah. The Messiah can be inferred from other books of the OT Bible, namely Psalms, Job, and even Genesis. It is the hope of the coming Messiah that adherents to Judaism look for.
So, simply put, yes, they do. They do not believe He has arrived yet, is all. Keep in mind that Christ is not one of the OT names for the Messiah.
OT names for the Messiah can be found using study materials, usually available at Christian bookstores, or at places online like biblegateway, zondervan, etc. Most of the Bible publishers have searchable versions online. A good study Bible will serve you well.
EDIT - Your thumbs down show your ignorance, and arrogance.

Did you notice that the Jews who answered said no and the Christians who answered said yes? So does that mean that I, as a Jew, can answer questions about Christian theology as though I know just as much about it as Christians do?

Jewish people do believe in Christ, they just don't think he's the Messiah. They believe him to be a prophet. If they did believe in him as the Messiah, they wouldn't technically be Jewish. So no, it's not possible for Jews to believe in Jesus.

ladisuri, i have been messianic for 8 yrs. before that i was sda. i never believed in hell and have always eaten kosher and kept the sabbath. for the past 8 years i have lived a jewish lifestyle, keeping torah like any conservative jew would. i do not believe that jesus is God. but what i really want to say to you is that messianics do NOT have an agenda to convert anyone to anything. they simply love israel and the torah and want to live a jewish lifestyle. i really wish people would quit saying they have an agenda, because i've known hundreds of them and have yet to meet one with an agenda.
