Whew! That's kind of like asking what is Christianity. There are many different forms of Satanism. From the La Vey Satanism that doesn't actually believe in a god/being called Satan, but uses the term as a symbol for the animalistic qualities of human beings. They believe in giving into their desires in a responsible, healthy, and mature manner as long as they don't hurt anyone including themselves. Other belief systems actually worship a devil of sorts. These are usually aboriginal groups that haven't had much contact with the West. There are also a few Pagan paths that could be considered as worshipping a Satan figure, but as a rule, most Pagans do not recognize the very Christian concept of an evil being named Satan who is at war/odds with the Christian God.
Also, there are those that claim to be "Devil Worshippers" and use this as an excuse to commit horrible acts.
Witches were often accused (and still are) of being devil worshippers, but this is (and was) untrue. Witches revere all living things and work to keep the earth and everything on it in balance and harmony. They would never dream of sacrificing a person to a being they do not believe in.
That's about as much as I know.

Yes, I have read most of Anton LaVey's books and have Satanic friends. If I wasn't religious I would probably lean heavily towards Satanism but I do believe in deities and my religion.
Added: from some of the responses the answer from a lot of people would be "No" they know nothing about Satanism, just propaganda

Yes, I know all about La Vey Satanism especially. Someone close to me chose that path. Through him I learned the good and bad aspects.

I know enough about it to get a very general idea of the working of the religion, however I'm by no means qualified to be an authority on the subject.

Satanism can refer to a number of belief systems depending on the user and contexts. Whether one thinks it is worship of oneself or worship of the devil, it matters not what those who practice 'think' it is. Satanism is idolatry and detestable in the eyes of The Most High God. The unrepentant will recieve eternal torment in the lake of fire.

Yes I do. From reading some of these dense answers it seems like I'm one of the few that actually do.

Yes, I've looked into both the philosophical and theistic forms of it enough to know some things about each.

Yes, I do. There are different traditions, just like many other religions. Anton LaVey's philosophy may be the most popular, but it's not the only one.
