Will you have it permantly recorded that you were caught and were punished with a misdemeanor?

It depends on the misdemeanor. If it was something like public intoxication or urinating in public, I would think not. But if it's something like assault, or drunk driving, yes. Most non-violent misdemeanors, like the first two can be expunged. It also depends on if your trying to get a security clearance. An extensive clearance may bring it up, but a general one maybe not.
