I am planning on getting a PS3, but considering I don't care about PS2 game compatibility, I don't see why I woud want to more expensive 80-gig version. Will I be missing out on anything? Why do I need more hard drive space? What's the disadvantage to the cheaper one?

What is the purpose of the flash card and usb ports? would I really need the card slots and more ports?

The 40GB PS3 can't play PS2 games, it doesnt have the flash card slots, and it only has 2 USB ports.

The 80GB PS3 can play both PS1 and PS2 games, it has the flash card slots, and it has 4 USB ports. That's the only difference between the two PS3's and of course the 80GB PS3 has more hard drive space.

If you don't care about playing PS2 games on the PS3, you can get the 40GB PS3, but I think that you should get the 80 GB PS3 anyways just so you can know that you will have plenty of hard drive space to last for a long time.

When you get the 40GB PS3, you will only actually have about 35-36GB because some hard drive space is already used up by the Operating System. But you can always purchase a bigger hard drive for the 40GB PS3.

Alright. Your best bet would be to find a new or used 60 gig. Here is why:

The 40 Gig is a lot different. The front of it is not chrome but made of cheap plastic. Also the biggest difference is no memory card slots or SD slots. That is a huge downside especially when PS HOME comes out in 2008.

The 60 Gig is the best of both worlds and doesn't cost as much as the 80 GIG.

THE SD Slots are a big deal. To get pictures, videos and other files on the ps3 you need these slots. I should say (TO EASILY get them on there you need these slots).

Also when PS3Home Comes out you may need to upload images and music to your home so I would higly suggest the 60 GIG model.

40gb ps3 has disadvantage by not play all of their ps2 games, no flash card reader, and no super audio cd support.
