Hi. I'm 14 and i have big problems with my dad.i remember a long time ago my family used to be happy and my mom and dad got along and he wasn't alcoholic, it really makes me mad that they didn't just split because i have thease horrible memories now in life on how my dad was like. My dad is NEVER supportive. He never came to my school concerts nor my sisters, he never congradulates me or my sister when something great happens at school AND at my sister's graduation, he cried and told my sister he was crying because he was disapointed in her, HOW ****** UP WAS THAT??? He drinks every night and gets drunk. My mom is always gone out of state to help her sick parents and i miss her and my sister a lot. My dad and i always fight and yell at each other and he is swears and talks to his own child like a stranger. I'm really down and sad, i miss my mom and sister and i always want to break down and scream. My friend's parents are soo nice and i wish i had a dad like that:( what should i do??

You need to contact alteen and go to some meetings. It will help you understand your Dad better, and help you handle the problems that arise. If your Dad is an alcoholic, he has a decease, and might not be able to stop drinking without some help. Living with an alcoholic is not easy, but you need to learn how to so you can have a decent life. Don't fight with a drunk, because they won't remember the next day. Talk to your counseler at school, they will help you learn what you need to know, you won't be the first, and you won't be the last one they help get a better understanding.

I can relate to your story because my ex-husband was exactly like your dad and I felt for my 2 boys so I asked for separation and eventually got my marriage annulled. Why don't you join you mom and sister? If your dad will be alone, then he might realize the importance of his family and change his attitude. But, I still believe that "you can't teach old dogs new tricks".

im sorry i kinda know what your going through except the whole not supporting thing!but anyways i think you should talk to him and tell him how you really feel and how you miss the old times when everything wasn't so messed up and you should talk to people you trust so you can get support from them and not doing this a lone i think thats the best thing you can do!!=)
