Then why does my DEP ID list my rank as "PVT" ? or is that 3 digits total so E-2= PV2, E-3 = PFC, etc?

Delayed Entry Program ID
well it technically says,

Thank you though :-)

I think my question was misleading. What I meant to ask was, why is my rank listed as "PVT" instead of "PV1" on the ID?

I do believe we're still using three. That is to say, I've never seen someone with an ID boasting only two. Well, military ID that is, I never needed a DEP ID when I left for BCT from my MEPS.
Oh, I've never seen E-1 listed as PV1, it's always been PVT.
Like, my rank for example, is E-2 & yet on my military ID it's shown as PVT.

DEP ID? Isn't that a Dependent ID. That shouldn't have a rank.

Your question as to PV1 Yes that would be an E-1 PVT is an E-2 , PFC E-3 , and yes etc.

Does not matter. Until you are a hard stripe of at least E4 you are at the bottom of the pole. Pvt-Spec. 4 has the right to remain silent. You do your own thinking on your own time.

Hang tough. Pay attention and learn from your elders, they already made mistakes you might want to avoid. Do your job well. Get a good score on whatever they call the EER these day's and you will live long enough to have the pleasure to make some newbee's day really bad when they deserve it. Remember we are not vindictive just experts at the dispensing of tough love. When you get tough love you will remember that mistake and never make it again. Are we clear?!

I thought so!

If we've gone to a 2 letter rank appreviation, that'd be news to me.

BG, LG and MG are the only three that are only two letters.

PVT is correct. Your first advancement will get you PV2 and your mosquito wings.

E1, E2, O1, O2, etc. are your paygrade, not your rank. Ranks can be any length. Go to this website, it has the military rank structures.
