It's not the existence of God, I think, that makes the atheist question, it's more the lack of a cohesive nature to the religions of the world. There are some 223 world wide religions and Christianity boasts the Roman Church and some 500 protestant sects and sub-sects...each of which claims to have cornered the market on the truth. We are confused by polytheists and monotheists. I know Christian fundamentalists who refuse to come to terms with the idea that in spite of the obvious tie that Christians and Muslims have to Abraham, and that both religions are monotheistic, that we both worship the same God
Sunni and Shiite Muslims kill each other all day long because they can't agree on the line of succession after Mohammed
On the plus side, we have the Amish. The group in Pennsylvania who took up a collection for the wife and children of the man who murdered theirs completely understand what Christ said about forgiveness, yet they are marginalized among Christians as quaint and curious.
Where in the world do the white supremacists find anything in the Bible to support their views?
I read a story about an associate pastor in the Missouri Synod of the Lutheran Church who was asked to take a minor part in a niece's wedding in central Minnesota. When he did he was fired.
I watched a service on television in a church where the pastor owns the church.God must rent it from him. Even the choir sings about money.
I understand that Pat Robertson owns a diamond mine on a continent we will lose ultimately to AIDS because the money from those "blood diamonds"won't get spent on the African Continent.
Two of my favorite quotes in history are from Mohandas Ghandi(who, incidently, understood and practiced Christianity closer to the truth than most Christians) was once asked what he thought of western civilization said,"I think it would be a good idea."
He also said,"I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are very unlike your Christ."
Our religious differences will ultimately be our undoing. I speak not of the differences between Christians and Muslims, but the differences between Sunnis and Shiites, and the differences between Baptists and Mormons, and the differences between Episcopalians and Anglicans.
I like everything about God and he continues to protect me from His followers

#10.. He doesn't know the difference between a bat and a bird.

#9.. He says I can't eat pork or rabbit because it is "unclean".

#8.. He likes people to sacrifice animals for "A sweet savour unto the lord" Anyone who gets their jollies from such a thing is diseased in my books..

#7.. He clearly has a prejudice against women and I am a woman.

#6.. He killed a guy for picking up sticks on the sabbath.. c'mon who does stuff like that?

#5.. He thinks swearing is an offence worth the death penalty.. ie stoning to death.

#4.. He has something against handicapped people because in the bible he mentions that they can't come near the altar of god of they will profane it.. nice guy..

#3.. He supports slavery.. apparently it's ok to own other people and treat them as inferior to yourself.

#2.. He tells people to "stone to death" any woman or man who has "a familiar spirit" apparently that includes having a cat.. and many women lost their lives because of that absurdity.

#1.. He has something against foreskins.. and encourages people to mutilate their bodies and offer the foreskins to him. You'd think if he hated foreskin so much he would have left it out when he created man.

This is irrelevant, because I can't dislike something that doesn't exist. But IF he did/does--this is a BIG 'if'--there are several reasons I wouldn't like the guy.

1. He's sexist
2. He's racist
3. He's petty
4. He's revengeful
5. He's egotistical
6. He's crude
7. He's a jerk
8. He's a megolomaniac
9. He LIKES for people to bow down and serve him because he's so powerful. He DEMANDS worship.
10. His followers are crazy.

There you go. Ten reasons to hate God, the jerk.

An athiest couldn't answer this question. He doesn't believe he exists so therefore the question becomes moot.
