Which two liquids should i compare for my sci. project?

I am doing water rockets. I was going to put water in Rocket A, and put Milk in Rocket B, and see which one went higher.

I hypothisized that Water would go higher since it had a lower density.. but no I'm hearing that milk and water have similar densities.. so there wont be much of a difference in the heights of the rockets..

So now im thinking to compare Rubbing alcohal vs. Water..?

Is there a difference in densities for these two liquids?

Which two liquids should i compare?

Any other ideas?

i wouldn't put alcohol in a rocket.

It is not necessarily the densities you should be concerned about, it should be the vapor pressures. Rubbing alcohol evaporates faster than water at room temperature, thus it will build up more pressure quicker. However, water will have a greater effect because it has a higher vapor pressure, but more heat is required or applied pressure is required in order to launch the rocket high enough. Rubbing alcohol and water are probably best to compare and much information is known about the two for thorough background search for your project. Good luck.

This looks like a good experiment. I think you are right that there will not be much difference between water and milk. There may not be much difference between water and alchol but you are right that they have different densities (alcohol floats on water so it has low density). I would guess that another factor may be more important than which fluid you use, that would be the pressure. If you research the forces involved, what aspects of the system determine the thrust? The mass of the fluid is one factor but there are others. good luck

Do the experiment and find out. But be careful with the alcohol. In a clear glass start with water, and then pour some alcohol in, watch and see if they seperate. The denser of the 2 will go to the bottom, and the less dense to the top.

Hmmmm, they both sound delicious but i would have to go with rubbing alcohol and milk with maybe a splash of baby powder for a sweeter taste.

rubbing alcohol and water.
ice rises in water and sinks in rubbing alcohol
since rubbing alcohol is less dense
good luck on your project!
