You can improve your relationship with God by not pestering him all the time and taking care of your own problems - he's busy taking care of everyone else's, and would appreciate the help.
Still, i you *have* to talk to God, i feel you might be looking for some sort of revelation.
I would advise learning from the teachings of our ancestors, which is different from simply reading about them and copying what they say.
Form your own opinions about them, you are you, so stop trying to be them.
edit; is there someone following me about giving me -1 to everything i say lol?
By all means, keep doing it dear chap.

How can I improve my relationship?
Answer: 2 Chronicles 7:14 (King James Version)
14If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
How can I improve my relationship with God?
My current status makes it very difficult to attend a church. I heard praying and reading the Bible can.
I feel really lost right now and need some help. What can I do to improve my relationship with God so I can talk to him properly?
If you would like to email or IM me I would be glad to talk with you. I am a Christian.
God Bless You and Your Family is my Prayer.
David

Which route do you want to go, prayer and reading the Bible is great but if you feel you want more in which aspects. Do you want to take an intellectual approach then you could study, read books by heady professors and what not. You could do good works and volunteer maybe that will help soften your heart. Maybe just being a part of a bible study group will give you what you are looking for. Try to really define your goal and then work backwards and imagine what the first step would be and then make it happen.

You don't have to go to church to improve your relationship. Don't get too wrapped up in religion and instead just focus on your relationship with the lord. Pray for guidance and be patient.
Try going to a christian bookstore to look for a book that might help you along the way.

A relationship develops when someone goes through good times and bad times with you. You rely on that person and learn to trust and have faith in them. Start by praying about getting closer to Him and then make time to listen to Him. You can keep scripture handy and when you have a question, pray, then open His book to see what He has for you to teach you. Just watch and wait for Him to speak to you and you will be amazed at how much you learn to grow with Him. Sweeter as the years go by!

Meditate on what you read and discern it for yourself. Remember that people were makeing their accounts of what happened in the time of god. After thinking on it pray about it and it will all come to you. It's a lot of hard work so I usually don't do it as much as I should.

Love yourself, your real self and not your greed or lust of other things.
We are to love God as we love ourselves. If we do not love ourself, whom God created, we can't love the creator. Admit to yourself you do really want guidance and love that does not destroy.
Look deep down inside and find yourself, then give that self to God and talk with Him like you would your own father if he knew your every thought. Don't try to hide anything. Tell God how you feel and ask Him to guide your feelings. Literally leave it with Him and do what you feel He wants you to do.
Don't be afraid of God. Talk to Him even He already knows what you want and what you will say. He wants you to talk to Him, anyway.
Study the Bible to see more of what He wants you to do.

What you need to do is ask God for forgiveness sincerely. Sin is what seperates you from God. It is good that you want to improve your relationship w/ God!!! After you have asked God for forgiveness, try this b4 you try and start reading God's Word: pray to Him b4 you read. Thank Him for all that He has blessed you with in your life. Thank Him that He created you and thank Him for everything and everyone who is in your life right now. Ask Him to help you understand His Word. Ask Him to help you know how to use His Word in your life so that it will glorify Him. The reason why we are all here on earth right now, is to glorify Him b/c of what He did for us b/c He loves us so much. I hope that answers some of your questions. Thank you for letting me me talk and pray for you!!!!! God bless!!!!!!!!! and one more thing to ALWAYS remember: Jesus LOVES you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scripture is the story of YHVH offering a marriage contract to humans. Take His name (with power) and follow His rules. Know that He wants you to be saved more than you want to be. Believers followed Torah for 300 years after the death of Messiah. Until "Christians" outlawed it. "Christian" is Babylon of scripture. We are to come out of it!
