The situation in North Korea. To those poeple Kim Jyong Yeil is the son of god. And they really believe it. They are cut off from the outside world. No internet, no cell phones, and all t.v. is monitered and supplied through the government. If you study the myths surounding Kim yeil Sung and his son, these are indoctrinated into the poeple at birth. They are gods. Kim yeil sung walked across a river on leaves, and threw pinecones that turned into hand grenades. His son as his successor is believed to be born in a holy place, where in the middle of winter flowers bloomed and the world knew that a great leader was born. When Kim yeil sung died a 1000 cranes decended from the heavens to carry him away. These poeple believe this and honor the regime. The idea was built on confusionism that states that that the state is a body and the head is the great leader, without which neither could exist. My question is this, How is this different from the holy bible, where a culture was isolated and.

there was no outside influence. What's the difference. This doctrine is being forced down poeples throats at pain of death. How is this different?

Believe me, I'm not saying that any of this is true or right, I'm simply pointing out a similarity. And the fact that these poeple really believe this nonsense. The similarity being that mythological powers are attributed to an earthbound diety, because that's what they are, dieties to the poeple that believe.

Whenever a group is isolated from outside information and told they must all believe a set of ideas and do certain actions, or be killed if they don't, it's obviously a very manipulative situation.
If the conditions were in fact the same in the two instances you describe, then I don't think there would be much of a difference at all with respect to authoritarianism and manipulation.
Annoyed:
Take a hint. She's not talking about the Christianity described in the Bible. She's talking about a group that was isolated for 40 years in the desert.
But there have in fact been periods of time once Christianity became the dominant religion when Christians were completely isolated from other ideas and "heresies" were punishable by death. So those places and times would also fit the description above.

In the time of Jesus and even now the followers of God are not cut off from the outside world. Do you think Jesus would have been hung by a cross if there wasn't outside influence? I haven't heard historians advise that Jesus never existed. There is debate of him being the son of God or a prophet but there has never been an instance that followers of God have not had other beliefs or different religions imposed on them. So I don't believe that Korea and Christianity and the holy bible are even alike. The only way that arguement would work is if Christians lived in their own country cut off from the rest of the world which we all know isn't the case. However, you had a start of a good arguement until all the pieces were put together. Good question.

there are huge differences
1. christianity is not forced down people's throats on pain of death. It is a message warning you of the consequences if you do not repent, but the choice is yours
2. N koreans are cut off from any alternative viewpoints. The Christian world view is the one responsible for the freedom we have in the west, where the Bible has been put to the test and has passed and survived for thousands of years.
3. N koreans are taught that a mortal man is a god. The Bible's message is that such a belief is evil. All people are God's creation and no man or woman has the right to claim deity.
4. In Japan, people used to believe until late last century that the emperor was divine. The same thing happened in other cultures throughout history. It's just a way of conning ignorant people into submission, so as to allow the emperor to maintain his power. Christianity has no such concepts. God is the supreme power and does not need to con people. On the other hand, his word offers wisdom, freedom and power to the people.

You are quoting information that had been released from Kim Jong-il's official state biography, and it is known to the outside world and to subjects within North Korea that the information is not true. There are North Koreans who try desperately to leave into South Korea, where other family members have escaped to.
It can be compared to David Koresh or the smooth sociopathic tendencies of Jim Jones, or even the manipulative qualities of Adolph Hitler, mass misinformation with the intent of manipulating a population group.

The pain of death for the 1st 400 years was against Christians actually if you wish to look at history. This also wasn't an isolated culture. Christianity started during the Roman empire which ensured safe travel to almost anywhere in the world. This was a big time of cultural diversity that has not been matched until recently. The isolation of North Korea cannot be compared reasonably with the time of Rome.

Kim was a sinner. He didn't die for people's sins. If he DID die for sins, it would have only been for his own. He didn't teach about putting other's first and loving The Lord. All the other stuff is verification of the prophecy. Sort of a checklist for "Is He the one we are waiting for?" The thousand cranes carried him away. He didn't be dead for three days then rise again. I'm not impressed with a bunch of birds. Jesus was actually DEAD then RAISED from the dead. THAT is what proves He is the Son fo God. Oh that and the fact that God claims Him and the Jews claim God. That's pretty hard to top. The Jews are the oldest race on the planet, even beating out the chinese. Adam was Jewish. His decendants were Jewish. Jesus was Jewish so when God says This is my son with Whom I am well pelased, you'd better sit up and take notes cause He might jsut start cleaning house and taking names!

I dont believe there is much a difference. Although Christians dont kill people anymore. They do however use fear as a way to control their masses. And have killed people in the past for not following the church. Religion is a very dangerous way to live because in the hands of a fanatic it will end up killing us all, leading to a war of who is right and who is wrong.Religion in any form separates and will never unite. To all religions I say nobody is coming to save you, there is no God. And we shouldnt all have to die so you can find that out.

First off I want to address the "educated answers only please''
Technically speaking your question is not correctly phrased, there for it is according to you uneducated.
There are many god's but only one God. Even the Mormons believe when they die they will become god's of there own little worlds. So the thing with man thinking he is as god stems right back to Adam an Eve in the garden of Eden, when Satan tempted them and told them they would be as gods. They got snookered.
Don't fall for all of the hoopla you read on the Internet. I'm not sure where you got your information but, If this so called god created hand grenades out of pine-cones, did anyone think to take a picture? Or hasn't he thought of that yet.
Don't fall for it. Jesus is Lord over all the little god's man can create.

How is it different? You said it yourself. They are cut off from any outside source that might provide information that says otherwise.
Christianity has survived for a very long time, traveling the world over, in spite of other belief systems. There are certainly enough stories that try to contradict it and people do dispute it, but it remains.
I have heard some of those stories about N. Korea, too. They would never hold up if those people had any other source of information outside of what their government gives them.
edit:
In that case, YOU take a hint. Moses led the JEWS through the desert for 40 years, not a bunch of Christians.

<> The Church does not have an official stance on intelligent life on other planets. It is highly unlikely we're going to find intelligent life on other planets anyway. With regards to simple forms of life. As remote as it might be for humanity to discover even that on another planet, the Church has merely stated that the discovery of such life on another planet has no bearing on Church Dogma as it pertains to the sanctity of human life. <> The Church cannot claim that earth is the only planet in the universe to house complex and intelligent forms of life. Neither can the Church guarantee that there is any life on other planets. <<2.) If it is found that Aliens do exist, what do you think that would do to the church and religion in general? How would Christianity handle it?>> The Church has already stated that the discovery of life on other planets has no bearing on Church Dogma.
