Because The DaVinci Code is a work of FICTION. It is sold in the FICTION sections of bookstores. You find it in the FICTION section of your local public library.

FICTION means it's just a story. It's not true. The author fabricated tons of stuff to make the plot and characters work. That's how fiction works. A person would have to be really intellectually lazy to think that a work of fiction is true.

In the interest of acknowledging facts, there seems to be one key fact here that you overlooked entirely, and I just don't believe you overlooked it be accident either.

"The Da Vinci Code" is a work of FICTION.

Those Catholics you speak of, are not being defensive. They are simply annoyed at the incredible stupidity on display every time someone acts as if "The Da Vinci Code" is a work of non-fiction.

For over the 2000 year history of the Catholic Church, do you really believe that the Da Vinci Code is the first to make up this nonsense.

The Catholic Church simply does not bother itself with repeat nonsense. Come on. The 21st century can create better ideas for comtemplation!

Move on dot org.

That book is so far from fact! It is fiction you know!
There are hundreds of mistakes in it! Check these sites for just some of them. Number ONE ..
Referring to Leonardo Da Vinci as "Da Vinci." The Truth: Leonardo da Vinci is simply known as "Leonardo" (1452-1519). "Da Vinci" is a reference to Leonardo's place of origin.

If they get upset, then maybe there's an ounce of truth to it. Or maybe they're upset because the truth is twisted in that story. I honestly don't find anything wrong with Da Vinci Code - if its true or not - so what if Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married and she had a child after he was crucified? It does nothing to lessen faith or respect for Jesus and frankly, personally it makes me feel closer to Him because he was a husband, almost a father, he was human aside from being God. If He could do all that, we can try as well, right?

Even Dan Brown admits that it's fictional. Geesh. Don't let some factual stuff within the book fool you into thinking the whole thing is true.

The best lies will have some truth to it.

That's a good question. When i watched the movie, the whole time i was thinking, if a lot of this information is true, this could be right. It all made sense.

Even secular authorities reject most...if not all....of the davinci code assertions as untrue. It's not just religious folks who see through that sham.

Because it's a work of fiction with no historical support.

The author's a hack.
