The origin, no doubt, is Romans 10:9-10, which reads, "...for if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved."
Every Christian denomination accepts Christ as Savior, even if this is done by certain individuals on a merely intellectual level. It is entirely appropriate for Christians to challenge themselves and others to receive Jesus under the title "Savior", for that is what He truly is.
The problem emerges when people use the word "make" when urging others to accept the Lord, as in, "Will you MAKE Jesus the Lord of your life?" or "Will you MAKE Jesus your Savior?".
No one makes Jesus Lord and Savior; He IS Lord and Savior. He was Lord and Savior before any of us were born, and He'll be Lord and Savior after all of us are dead.

Jesus said I am The way the truth and the life.No man cometh to the Father but by me.According to the scriptures someone would have to pay the price for sin.Jesus did that.It is a matter of faith to believe it.Simple belief that Jesus did that is all it takes.Abraham believed God and it was accounted unto him for righteousness.I believe acceptance comes into play when you Know you have sinned and owe a debt that only Jesus could pay.

The word "accept" is not found in the Bible, but many people infer this from a weight of scriptural evidence, as you've probably already seen. This amounts to a free-will decision to authorize Christ into one's heart, and I disagree with this. We do not tell God what to do. We see other words like repent and believe, but these words imply action by God giving us that belief and repentance, not our own impetus in doing so.
So my opinion is that not only is the word not found in Scripture, the concept is not there either.

It doesn't say to accept Jesus as your Savior.
The bible says to repent and be baptized in Jesus' name.
We couldn't even feel the need to do that unless God had called us.

It DOESN'T, that is FALSE DOCTRINE...
Matthew 7:21 “NOT EVERYONE who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven. ONLY THOSE WHO DO WHAT MY FATHER IN HEAVEN WANTS WILL ENTER.
22 “Many will say to me on that day, ‘LORD! LORD! Didn’t we PROPHESY in your name? Didn’t we DRIVE OUT DEMONS in your name? Didn’t we do MANY MIRACLES in your name?’ 23 THEN I WILL TELL THEM CLEARLY, ‘I NEVER KNEW YOU. GET AWAY FROM ME, YOU WHO DO EVIL!’
alice_cullen1221: Actually, it DOES have a "how-to." It is called "Acts of the Apostles" and records much of the early history of the church, what they DID and TAUGHT... Acts is the ONLY book in the New Testament which tells us about HOW people became Christians. There were no Christians during Jesus' ministry, because his DEATH was necessary to open the Way (Hebrews ch. 9 + others).
