First off, make sure it is addressed to a specific person...the post office is refusing to forward military mail that is not addressed to a specific person.
Second, just write a simple Thank You note. They don't need a mushy speech or anything, they just need to know that someone back home actually appreciates their service to our Country.

My brother is currently fighting in Iraq. He cannot express enough gratitude for simple letters of encouragement. Just speak from your heart -- that what/how/why that soldier is important to you.

Thank you brave soldiers for the sacrifices you made for our country. Our country is the best in the world with the strongest military and the most freedoms because of you Veterans. Freedom is not free, and thank you for your sacrifices.

Most of the time, deployed soldiers just want a distraction.
Write about yourself, who you are, what you are doing and what you want to be and do.
Be yourself and be respectful.
