Car ads claim they have "The Best Deal out there!" but really they don't. So is it illegal to claim you have the best deal?

Normally an ad will say somehting like that and then have a caveat stating "not all drivers will qualify for the best rate."

It's no difference than the car ads on TV. If you have PVR or a tape machine, "tape" a TV ad, then go back an watch it - pause when all the small print comes up at the bottom and read what that says....hardly ANYONE qualifies at that rate!

And what about all of the "fast talk" on radio ads about new car deals?

It's all about marketing and trying to get your attention!

Illegal? NO.....UNETHICAL? Yes!

The best thing to do is call a LOCAL independent agent. Don't go across town, or to some other city - look for someone CLOSE. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional licensed agent that will be able to help you solve your insurance problems, and give you rate comparisons of several different companies.

An independent insurance agent will normally have a dozen different companies and if he cannot help you, he should be networked with other local agents that can.

Most of the replies on this site say "go to this on-line carrier or that on-line carrier or that 1-800 number" but I'm sure that when you do, you will find some impersonal computer user with a script to work from and you won't be able to talk with the same person every time you have a problem!

Good luck, drive RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps

What this is called is "Bait and Switch" and every dealer does it.

The will advertise a vehicle at a very low price and by the time you get there they will tell that it is gone or has been sold.

Since you are already there they will try and get you into a different vehicle that is much higher and there are a lot of people that will fall for this.

Is it illegal, well they probable have that vehicle on the lot but they will not sell it because this is their fishing vehicle and they can always tell you that something is wrong with it in the event that you did find it on the lot.

Each insurance company has multiple rating factors and tiers. They may have the best rate for a specific tier. Therefore, "best deal out there" may be a true statement. You just did not meet the requirements of the tier that gets the best rates.

I've never seen an add that said they have the "best deal out there for every single driver on the road no matter what your driving record/insurance score. Our rates are better for every single driver out there no matter what:".

No. Anyone that claims to have something they don't is illegal at least here in Minnesota it is. For example I know of a place that said they had gas at one price on their sign and at the pumps they had a different price and they got a fine. I would check with the state you live in and ask them about it.

"Out there" could be open to any amount of interpretation.
