Ok.. so my soon to be mother in law said she would pay for me to go to the doctor and for any prescriptions they would give me. If any.
Im 21 years old.. and would probably be considered morbidly obese.
Now i have never been to the doctor for diet plan reasons. But my mother in law said that i should just go there and ask the doctor for a plan of some sort.
My questions for you guys.. is should i got to a weight clinic or whatever *don't even know if we have one of those*, or can i just go to my regular doctor, which is what my mother in law said to do.
And what type of DIET do doctors put you on, and what type of meds would they give me ... if any?
Any input would be great, thanks

A doctors visit would be the place to start. You will need a good physical, bloodtests, cholosteral and a baseline. If you are not in immediate danger of any weight related diseases. that could be diabetes or any heart disease. A good doctor will give you information on a safe way to lose weight. Please do not just go to a weight loss clinic first. If you are obese a good weight loss clinic will want this information any way. Call one of your hospitals for weight loss programs. Any diet medication should be a further help, not the first thing. You also need life changes not just diets

First, let's look at this mother-in-law problem (and she IS a problem if she is TELLING you to do things like a child). Begin to stand up for yourself, she sounds like a control freak and you must nip this in the bud before any more time passes.
Second, if you are morbidly obese (over 100 lbs. heavier than your ideal weight), you need some help. I believe in the fact that it isn't just an eating thing, it is an emotional thing too and you have to find out why you have eaten yourself to this weight. Has food become your best friend? Does it supply comfort, in say stressful situations (like dealing with a nosy mother-in-law?). You need to see a counselor who has dealt with weight issues to talk about what is bothering you or losing weight won't help your problem.
Third, doctors don't know diddly about nutrition! You need to go to someone like a nutritionist or weight watchers. I understand they have a cook book that is helpful, although I haven't seen it. I believe you can read about proper nutrition, it is really a no brainer. Eat healthy foods; lean meats like chicken and fish with no sauces, just broiled (the portion is no bigger than a closed fist), veggies, lots of water, no sodas, junk foods or suggary foods, no fatty foods no salty foods. You aren't starving yourself, you are just eating healthy.
Fourth, exercise is a must to lose weight and keep it off. Start off with just a short walk and them work your way up to more as you feel you can. Then you can expand and go to a club where you can either work out or on your own bike ride, walk/hike, swim, etc.
No matter what you do, do it because you know it's good for you and will literally save your life.
Take care, I know you can do this and since you are so young, it will be easier for you to lose weight.

If you are morbibly obese you should probably go to a specialist called a bariatric doctor(specializing in obesity).Ask your family doc to refer you. Good luck.
