Is this some sort of mantra the Christian community is spreading in order to excuse all of the behavior that is so opposite of what Christ is about. Does admitting you are a sinner to the public relieve the guilt?

I very much dislike the Christian Bumper sticker slogan of "Christians aren't Perfect~Just Forgiven"

To me its just an excuse for some of them , like when they go against their scriptures {Like getting a Divorce.. yet their NT says not to remarry while your spouse is alive is adultery} yet tell you what and how you are to believe. No one is perfect..I find it strange that some feel the need to hide behind this as I've had it quoted at me before.

whogives. . . is partially right. Also, I feel that there is an expectation by others, especially atheists (and forgive me if I'm wrong), that we ARE in fact to be spotlessly perfect, and that just doesn't happen. Even where Jesus commands us to "Be perfect, therefore . . .", he is stating it as a goal rather than what he thinks will actually happen. Admitting we are sinners does not relieve the guilt, confession does that, but we SHOULD be admitting we are sinners anyway. Those Christians that go around with that "holier than thou" bit all the time don't help anyone, especially those we are to be reaching out to. And there are quite a few of those, sometimes.
Hope I've answered well, and have a great night!

Everybody, including me is a sinner. We are ALL born sinners. When we invite Christ to come and live in our heart, then the Holy Spirit comes inside of us 2, and when we're thinking about doing stuff that isn't good, the Spirit is that little voice inside of you that says "dont do it". We have the choice to either listen to it, or ignore it. Christians are NEVER perfect an any way. We have ALL made mistakes in our lives. To answer your last question, in most ways, in my opinion, no. When I have done something wrong, I sincerely ask God for forgiveness. Then, He cleans me from that sin. Everybody is guilty in SOME way. The only One that is perfect is Jesus. That is why He is the ONLY one that can forgive us of our sins. I hope this helps in some way.

No. Christians are merely saying that they are no more perfect than the next person. Christians are sinners like everyone else, but because we know Christ as our Lord and Savior, our sins are forgiven - past, present, and future. We don't say we're not perfect just to excuse our sins. If that's what you believe or think, then you are being misled or misunderstand Christians when they say that. I'm a born again Christian myself - have been for nearly six years now and I know I'm not perfect - far from it. I'll be the first in line to admit it, but because Christ died on the cross for my sins, He forgives my sins because I am renewed in Christ and am no longer conformed to the ways of the world. Christ has opened my heart and mind to know the truth - HIS truth and through God's Holy Spirit, I am given spiritual wisdom and understanding of His word to know what pleases God and what does not. The world is ignorant to God, which is why the world continues to deny Him and takes pleasure in sin and wickedness. It's a sad reality, but that's because this world is full of sin. Christians go through trials, tribulations, disappointments, have aches and pains, dealing with sorrow and hurt, and of course, we make mistakes - everyone does. The ONLY one who is perfect is Christ - no one else.

I don't really know the full story but yes,we aren't perfect and we never will be.

Admitting to the public that we are all sinners but that Christ had died for our sins and that the public, everybody, should come receive Jesus into our lives right now is what we are doing right now.

But if anyone is using "Christians are perfect" to sin or cause any harm to anyone is doing something really wrong.

God bless ya.

Because being a Christian means that you know you are a sinner and are worth nothing, and that the Lord is perfect and Holy.We need to know that God is awesome and powerful, and we are nothing compared to The Lord. We shouldn't use it as an excuse we need to strive to be like Jesus, but we are human we will mess up.

Because nobody is perfect, christian or not......and, christians just because they are saved are not perfect. But they are forgiven........

By the way Aravah, the Bible says you can divorce if your wife/husband commits adultery against you. This is the only reason given that is acceptable.

And when someone says that they are not perfect, just forgiven, that is just to say that becoming a christian hasnt made you perfect, but you are forgiven, and thats something to be thankful for!

I think that the morals of Christians have declined drastically!!
Churches are doing whatever they can to bring people into them but for the most part, I don't see lives changing. There is no difference between the local tavern and the church. Services are designed to make us comfortable, I have heard of churches serving hot pretzels, cappucinno, etc. and even some having smoking rooms in them. They are big social events but there is nothing to prick our hearts and make us turn toward God and away from Sin!!!

People that are not Christian expect a believer to be perfect, which we are not. We have been hurt, abused and disappointed like everyone else on the earth. We are just being changed daily to be more like Jesus. We just want others to know that we need to have understanding and acceptance of our situations that we struggle with. We all are human and need love an acceptance to grow as an individual.

We are all sinners. But some never change their ways because they "know" they will be forgiven by God anyway if they're sincere enough. Which is why Christians aren't perfect because some don't practice what they preach and they ride on the faith to justify their sins.
