Actually turkeys are very much a native North American bird. They were unknown in the old world. They are also one of the very few North American animals to be domesticated.

smart with the parasitic reference right here, yet certainly the bald eagle is a scavenger too, Benjamin Franklin needed a turkey to be the nationwide image yet permit's settle for it a BALD EAGLE seems completely impressive and a turkey sounds like it belongs with mashed potatoes in November.

At the first thanksgiving, the cook lost the eagle and had to steal the turkey they had caged for use as a symbol. He forgot to latch the cage, and the eagle escaped.

Our "Turkey" was named erroneously by Ben F who thought they looked like a bird native to the country Turkey. He was wrong, hence the ignoble status of that foul fowl. And anyone who thinks they are stupid should try hunting a wild one.
