Why don't you believe in Zeus? I only believe in one less god than you.

"why dont atheists beleive in God?(to the atheists)?" - If I had a nickel for every time this or a similar question is asked...

"im not an atheist but i'd want to know why they think so." - We do not believe in any god because there is not enough compelling evidence for his/her/their existence.

"i dont want to be a frog of pond who doesnt know anything about others and starts shouting tht im right" - Good thought. To bad so few Christians feel this way.

aheists r atleast btr than those who r just following a faith cz "their ancestors followed tht path in the sense tht they r atleast thinking!!!" - Thank you.

so sick of this question

"aheists r atleast btr than those who r just following a faith cz their ancestors followed tht path in the sense tht they r atleast thinking!!!"

atheism is no better than religion. faith is not bad. blind faith is. imposing belief/nonbelief on others is. there are too many negative connotations to religion, so people blame the religion itself.

as for my response: atheists don't choose to be atheists. they just don't believe in God. sometimes they're born that way, sometimes they're born theist but something makes them think otherwise. either that, or theyre satisfied with science and logic as an answer to their questions.

theists are sometimes not satisfied with logical answers and impatient with our society for not yet being able to explain everything. God is a tentative reason for things that can't be explained. whether he really exists or not, i don't know.

edit: to those who use "what created God?" as a reason to be atheist, here's my question: *what did matter come from?* just a little harmless devil's advocacy. ;)

I guess I'm not a strict atheist in the fact that I'm not exactly sure if there is a higher being (no one can), but I don't believe in a god who will judge us on whether we deserve to enter a "heaven". I believe that if there is a god, he or she doesn't care for us. Too much suffering in this world. This god doesn't do anything but watch.

"i dont want to be a frog of pond who doesnt know anything about others and starts shouting tht im right" Thank you for being so considerate!

There is no evidence for any such being, simple as that.

Some religions have strikes against the existence of their god(s). We can go to the top of Mount Olympus and see that there are no gods in residence there. No Zeus, no Hera, no Athena. We can observe logical mistakes in the idea of a god who is both all loving and all powerful, yet creates a world that contains evil. We can look at the way one religion evolves into another, and how religions borrow from one another along the way... while later claiming the religions they borrowed from are incorrect. We can look at religious texts, proclaimed to be the word of a perfect being - and observe mistakes, absurdities, and every manner of cruelty in the god the text describes.

But beyond religious concepts of god... where there is only the idea of a supreme being, the reason I'm an atheist is that there is no evidence.

because christian people are not better people than atheists. The nicest people I know happen to be atheists. So what's the point in being a christian?
I know mainly christians, so that's why they serve as comparison, I guess it won't be too different for other religions.

Though if you really wanted to know you would look up the millions of answers to the countless times this question has be asked.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you do a lot of text-messaging.

I'm not saying that Richard Dawkins speaks for me, but for a pretty good treatment of why atheists don't believe in God, "The God Delusion" is a great resource.

I believe that religion was created to try to answer the really big questions we sometimes have about where we came from. The problem is that it just raises more questions. If I meet God then I will believe, otherwise, nobody alive could possibly know one way or the other.

I just find all of the god stories to be unbelievable. Kind of how you don't follow the ancient Greek religions because you can't believe that Zeus is a real god.

Gods don't exist. There is no proof that any of them are real.

like u said... atheists beleive that people only beleive in other religions because of other people before them follow it...
atheists beleive in science and proof..
despite what any religion says there is no proof of any god... thats why its called "faith"
religions come and go with the times..... greek mythology was once a proud religion... now it is viewed as well a joke... and a script to make movies and tv shows off of...

atheists also point to the idea that religion causes war and controversy....

the crusades exc....

atheists also beleive that plp beleive in God because well.. it makes them feel better...and thats the only reason.....

in short atheists beleive in proof.. not in any god to explain how or where they got here... or how to live their lives exc...

Simply. There is no indisputable, creditable and plausible evidence to support such a claim that god is real. There are many flaws with the idea of god.
I use logic, reason and common sense as evidence that god is not real.
