Part of me wants to do it, because i would have a better reputation and be more respected by my teacher, but part of me doesn't want to do it because it will add too much stress to me and embarrass me. I already have my classes to focus on, i'm on a basketball team and, and i am working on getting my eagle scout rank. Hardly anybody knows i'm in band, if i make it to the honor band, they announce it to the whole school. People make fun of people in band. *band geeks*
I know i shouldn't worry about what other people think...
And I don't have much time to decide, so i need answers quickly!!!

Yes, for those of you wondering, I'm also very good at basketball and am planning on joining my high school's team. It's just the stress that i'm concerned about. Practices are about 2-3 hours a night, every wednesday starting february for a few weeks. I just am afraid that this will interfere with my school work and habits.

Yes! That honor doesn't come up a lot. I am a marching band geek and I would love to have an honor like that. Just trying out for it is a good thing, to make it or not. But to be nominated, you know you have skills. You shouldn't be afraid to be announced to the school, it is a good thing, people who make fun of kids in band or "band geeks" are just jealous of their talent. Don't worry about anybody else's opinion from your school, it is good to be in any band, studies show people who have taken band for any number of years make higher scores in tests and have a better chance to getting into a good college. I hope you do take the nomination and be all you can be, to do your best and represent your school, family, and your county well.

Hi,if you want to do it then go for it,the people that call you a geek are only jealous that they can`t play an instrument and that they haven't been asked to join.On the other hand if you feel it is too much to take on then say thanks but no thanks, but you might regret the opportunity later,it is a great chance i know some of these bands travel the world.Personally if it was me i would take it,they may not ask you again .if it is just these people that you think will take the mickey ,stopping you then .ignore them, all the time they are baiting you it gives someone else a break, and they will get fed up with it.I wish you well whatever you decide.

band geeks..LOl
that is rteally true.
let me put it to u this way./
if u join, u probly make about 10 thousands buck more a year.
colllege is gonna watch ur grade, sports and other extracurricular activity. band is one of the important one. however, u play basketball. r u good at it? in about a year or 2, u r gonna have to try out to be in the basket ball team. can u make it? do u have true talent for it?> if not, drop basketball. dont try to do too manythings at once. just pick couple and do them.
grades is out of question.
so u have to choose, basketball, eagle scout, or band.
if i were u, i would pick the 2 im am most good at.
i say u stick with basket ball tho. girls luv it. and band or scout, its ur choice.
u r gonna have to start doing community service maybe next year or the year after so leave some time for that. and u r getting bussier and bussier.

Okay, you obviously have time for band because you're already in it. The answer to this question is dependent on if you legitimately do not have time for it or you are going to be embarassed.
Being in honor band would be an honor. That's something to add to your college resume and might be the thing that sticks out to college recruiters when trying to decide between 2 college applicants. Since colleges now are bombarded with applicants, it's always best to have something that makes you worthy to them. Everyone can be in the band, "honor" band is something that few can have.
My advice...go for it if it won't interfere with school. Don't worry about what other people think...strong people don't care about that kind of stuff. Good luck in whatever you choose.

Do what you think is best. There's no right or wrong decision. You can always drop out it you absolutely have to. Or don't even worry about it and not do it. You'll have more free time to hang with friends and family, you won't HAVE to practice your instrument, and you won't HAVE to lug it around every where. Your teacher won't be mad at you if you don't do it. You'll be stressed if you do it. And it might be good...You'll learn tons of things, meet new friends, and have a blast playing with the band. Think about how much you really want it. If it's a goal...THEN DO IT! But if it's just something to do...you can do a lot of better/cooler things than be in a honor band.
Don't worry about what people think of you...just make sure that you're being yourself and you are happy with yourself. That's what counts.

I personally would. (I don't know if you are actually a nerd), but I know I am personally a nerd and I've no problem with most people regarding me as such. I was in the southern division of my state's orchestra for three years, and I was very, very proud and everyone at the school was happy for me. I'm a band geek and an honor student, and friends with mostly all of the people at school. You should be proud at such an accomplishment. As for people making fun of you, the only people that have made fun of me have been total morons. One was a weirdo who made fun of me for being a nerd..., except he was no success story being in special education and all, so I brushed that off. The other was a girl a couple of grades lower than me, who was in advanced classes but unbelievably immature; she stalked me and this guy who was her relative, but when I stalked back she got freaked out and stopped. Case in point, BE PROUD of your success, and as for everyone's jokes, THEY CAN GO TO H*** because they're probably not going to accomplish great things like you.

I wouldn't do it, it sounds like you have enough on your plate and adding more will stretch you too far. Also if you are ashamed of being in band, then that leads me to believe that your parents forced you to do it in the first place and are quit possibly forcing you to do this. Do what you want, don't let your parents completely force you into a million clubs, it doesn't help you create YOUR OWN personality. Band isn't geeky if you enjoy it, but it is if you don't. Don't take on too many extracurricular activities in your life, you need "me time" too.
Peace.

Go for it. Yeah, you shouldn't worry about what other people thinks but it hard. If you are embarassed by the classes you are in, then why are you in them? I think honor band will be a good thing to have on your list of accomplishments. I'm sure it is hard to even be nominated to be part of it.
Good luck!
