I think I have got a really high stress threshold (before I go to pieces!!) but unfortunately I passed it about 3 months ago.

Told my boss last week that I am stressed, and had a panic attack recently - what do you think he might be thinking now?? He was surprised as I have an image that I can cope. There is little or nothing he can do to reduce the stress (will last until end Jan with the current issues that are happening). I don't want to go off sick, because it will make everything worse (problems will get bigger!) and I haven't got any spare annual leave. Any suggestions?

A very big deadline in January, and some massive problems that have come up with the staff team (I'm the manager). I am getting to the stage I can't even stand to walk through the door, and sit just thinking about all of the problems and panicking it won't get sorted by Jan. The staff team are a pain / incompetent etc. - but I know that some of this is my fault for not nipping problems in the bud. Boss acknowledged issues with team. But also said people who can't stand the heat need to get out of the kitchen. Not quite the vote of confidence I needed!

What sucks about the strong, I Can Cope image, is that people will push you until you break. I second the yoga idea, and if you'd rather not do yoga, meditation is good too. Controlled breathing and journaling can also help vent some excess steam.

Good luck!

I've heard that yoga is a very good way to relax and deal with stress. Unfortunately I cannot vouch for it myself but I've heard enough about it from people I know that I know theres something to it :)

You can also try and do a relaxing spa weekend or something to blow off some steam and hopefully when you get back to work on Monday, you'll feel refreshed.

Request Help through your company's Employee Assistance Program they will offer you a chance to talk to a counselor to sift through the mess & set up a plan or strategy on how to cope or deal with your job situation in the short term

Also, take extra special care of yourself at this time - hot baths, comfort foods, etc.

Negatively: Chronic or long term stress does affect our bodies health differently. People who are under chronic stress have lower than normal white blood cell counts, are more vulnerable to colds and other viruses and take longer to recover from them. They are more likely to experience more severe symptoms than people who are not under a great deal of stress. Chronic stress will suppress the immune system if we don’t respond properly. Financial pressures, health worries, challenging relationships, strenuous work or family responsibilities can all stress your health. Positively: Acute stress and the immune system health reactions happen when you experience a fearful situation. For example, when a persons life is threaten by a robber, their reaction is referred to as stress. Responses to acute stress affect your health by triggering the spleen to discharge more white blood cells and directing those white blood cells to portions of the body that are more likely to be injured by an attack. At the same time, responses to this acute stress affect the immune system by reducing less important cellular activities temporarily.
