I believe our family pets will have a special place in heaven
GENESIS 9: 14-17
When I gather the clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the clouds, I shall recall the covenant between myself and you and every living creature, in a word all living things, and never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all living things. When the bow is in the clouds I shall see it and call to mind the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth, that is, all living things. `That' God told Noah, `is the sign of the covenant I have established between myself and all living things on earth.'
ISAIAH 11:6-9
And the wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid, and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed, their young ones shall lie down together, and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice's den. They shall not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
JOB 12:7-10
You have only to ask the cattle, for them to instruct you, and the birds of the sky, for them to inform you. The creeping things of earth will give you lessons, and the fish of the sea provide you an explanation: there is not one such creature but will know that the hand of God has arranged things like this! In his hand is the soul of every living thing and the breath of every human being!
PSALM 50:9-11
I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine.
PSALMS 50:10-11
For all forest creatures are mine already, the animals on the mountains in their thousands. I know every bird in the air, whatever moves in the fields is mine.
PSALM 136:25
...And who gives food to every creature. His love endures forever.
PROVERBS 12:10
A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal
ECCLESIASTES 3:19-21
Man's fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath, man has no advantage over the animal. Everything is meaningless. All go to the same place; all come from dust and to dust all return. Who knows if the spirit of man rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?
LUKE 12:6
Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before god.

The Bible clearly tells us that the lion and the lamb will lie down together in heaven. That informs us that animals are there and just as you said we know there are horses as well. Why would God create new ones instead of receiving those He already created into heaven? A lot of you answerer's have said that animals have no soul or "the Bible says no." Where? I have never read anything that says that in the Bible. To make such a statement, one should site a Bible verse to back it up. Job 12:7-10 as Tebone has quoted to us clearly shows us that the Bible says that the animals do have a soul. Anyone who has had a pet knows the tremendous amount of love that they show. God is love. I believe that God placed a piece of Himself in the animals and we see it in how they love us unconditionally.I think they will be in heaven. God bless!!

Sorry for your friends loss. Some say yes and some say no. There isn't any real definite answer on this side of heaven. But there is always hope so lets give your friend some hope.
The bible says that we all see through a glass darkly. And that there are many mysteries that will not be known until we are on the other side. Perhaps there can be hope in one of those mysteries to be revealed at that time that your friend will see his dog.

Humans have souls and spirits. When humans die the spirit goes to heaven but the soul goes depending on the person choice. Heaven or hell. For animals it is different. Animals only have spirits. Thus when the animal dies the spirit goes back to its creator. The spirit of the animal returns to God. In some ways the animal does go to heaven.

Interesting point about the horses (i.e. the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.) They may however, since they are referenced in Bible prophecy, be analogous to another power or entity...like the Beast rising from the Sea with ten heads, ten crowns perhaps representing nations and their leaders.
What I can say with certainty is they, unlike human beings, were not created in God's image. We also have no reference that dogs' (or other animals' souls) are immortal. I suspect they, like the animals' flesh, is finite. Human beings, on the other hand, have an immortal spirit that will dwell in one of two places after the flesh has expired.

Yes they do and their natures if aggressive change to be "passive." How do I know this? I used to be a very aggressive person, some even say MEAN, but after a death experience my nature became alot more passive having brought some of that nature from a realm I existed in for a small while. Our "nature" is changed in death to be what we should have been in life on earth, "even" that of those who are unworthy of heaven to be one that is nothing like what we are on earth.

I believe there are animals in Heaven, cos God made them too. There's a verse something about a lion and a little child leading it......? forget how that goes. So yes, I think so.

I'd like to think so.....Anyhow, when our lifelong family pet passed, my husband "calmed" us all (the kids & I) by telling us "She's in heaven now on Grandma's lap." Whatever the case may be....it made us feel better. None of us will know what happens in the "after-life" until it is our time....

I had a cat when I was a little girl and cried for a few years after her death. I had a dream that I was standing before Jesus. Out from behind His back He pulled out my little cat. I was so happy and cried. He cares about our animals as much as we do, because He loves us. Our animals that have died are waiting for us in heaven.
