Weakness: I hold myself to very high standards. I tend to expect others to meet those same standards. Although it's rare - this can result in mis-communication with my co-workers. (Be ready to give an example of a time this happened - just in case they ask. It does not have to be a big thing).

Strength: organization, time management, ability to think on your feet, conflict resolution.

If this is your first claims job: remember - if a customer is talking to you -something rotten happened (car wreck, even a little one, damage to home etc). The customers will get upset and they will take it out on you from time to time. NO matter what the customer says - DO NOT take it personally. The customer may have been hurt in the accident - they are inconvienced - they are stressed -they are worried - and you are an easy target for them to direct all this. No claim or accident happens at a good time. They always disrupt your life. If the customer met you on the street - they would not call you that name.

So what do you do - Let the customer vent- get the poison out - and then steer the conversation toward moving the claim forward.

There are also professional designations that you can earn. Usually a company will pay for you to do it - or reimburse you the cost. I highly encourage this. The two basic ones that adjusters do - INS- General Certificate in Insurance and AIC - Associate in Claims. These are not too bad. You have to study for them but they are not killers. The big one is CPCU - this one is rough. You get a lot of respect for having it and some companies require managers to be pursuing it. The web site for these programs is www.acipcu.org. So, you think you would be willing to complete some of these programs - review the web page. At the interview, you can ask them what their company position is on taking these programs or continuing education.

Good Luck.
