Like I hear them say "the universe will provide" or "open your mind to the universe." I know they aren't talking about the inanimate universe, space, atoms, dark matter. Is that only a different way to talk about God?

I would bow to Jasumi's expertise, because I don't know anybody like that.

I do know of people who feel that some fundamentalists like Jerry Falwell, Pat Roberston, and other neo-conservatives have abused the term "God" so badly (also the terms "prayer" "Jesus," and "faith") that they feel they have to avoid those words to avoid being associated with their hatefulness and greed.

They use "universe" to refer to God, but not the god that some fundamentalists put forth.

Other people might use it to talk about a deity, but separate from Christian, Muslim, or other theist ideologies, I guess. That would fit in with what Jasumi said too.

Many people think the Universe is a living being with a consciousness of its own.

Humans are just a "bunch of molecules and atoms and internal organs." The same way the Universe is just a "bunch of dark matter and stars and atoms." What's the difference? Not much.

It could be. Who knows? Why did this universe come into being? We kinda know the how, but what is the why?

In quantum physics, entanglement happens when two atoms are linked and become one entity, then you separate these two atoms as far as you like and a change in one atom is reflected in the other atom! No matter how far apart they are. It's as if information is transmitted instantaneously.

When you think about it, every single particle was once connected/linked to each other and then there was the big bang, so every single particle in the universe is now entangled with each other. It reminds me of Nirvana in Buddhism.

Kinda freaky cool.

I think regardless of religion or cultural beliefs its pretty clear that earth is just a fraction of what the universe may contain. Whether it is God or the Universe that we are talking about it is clear that it is all relating to something bigger. It is hard not to believe that is something bigger.

For some people it is exactly the same thing.

Deepak Chopra is a big one for 'asking the universe'.

One is the Creator. One is the created. There are many people who think they are one, but they are not.
