Maybe because they like the trappings but not the rules?

I don't know who Michael Newdow is.

I'm agnostic, I don't go to church, but I've read the Bible. I've also read the Torah, the Koran, and the Book of Mormon, and i'll really read any other religious text I can find, including Mythology.

That sort of thing just interests me. Without religion, the world would be radically different, I don't know if if would be better or worse, but religion is a part of History, so to deny its existance would be to deny history.

It's interesting to me to learn about other people's beliefs, and think about how incredibly different they are from my own, while still having subtle similarities.

It may be that atheists go to church because they want to know more about religion, even though they are not religious, or it may be to appease other religious people.
There are probably many different reasons for things like that.

You will have to ask him. I know a couple that are Unitarians and attend their church every week. They like the social part of it, and Unitarians are accepting of atheists.

But we really aren't a group. I don't get it. Not having a religion is a huge bonus to me.

I have been known to go to church with my wife, it's a Baptist church.
I'm fully aware that their beliefs are nonsense, but I go with her when she really wants me to.
