My daughter is 9 1/2 months old and only seems to give a crap whether I am alive or not when we are home alone. If a relative is holding her she will often cry when she is handed back to me. She nevers reacts when I leave the room if there is another friendly face to play with(she will sometimes get upset if we are home alone). If her dad is holding her and hands her to me she will often cry. I am a stay at home mom and breastfed til around 7 1/2 months. She is very independant and is frequently happy playing by herself. I read to her many times a day, play the tickle game, snuggle with her, play peek-a-boo, play silly games with her and sing songs that I make up about her. Is there a reason why she treats me the same as everyone else? Is she just social and enjoys all people or is she not "attached" to me?

Just wanted to add this example...today we were in line to see Santa and my sister-in-law held Allison for a minute and they decided to go eat. When she handed her back to me she cried!

Some babies are like that. I'd call it a blessing. It feels good to be important to a child...but imagine an overly attached baby. Not being able to leave the room or--god forbid!--go out without her.

Once she can communicate you'll bond on a different, closer level. In the meantime, be thankful for her independance as it allows for some for you!

There will come a time that she gets upset when you leave, she just hasn't hit that stage yet, it's coming, trust me. Usually around 12-18months, it starts, and it settles a few months later. She sounds like a perfectly normal well adjusted 9 1/2 month old to me, and your doing a great job mom!

You have done well, she is attached to you but not 100% dependent on you. She is able to enjoy herself with others. This is a good thing. Would you rather she cried when you put her down and demanded to be held 24-7?

It sounds like she is just a very contented baby. You will be happy with that as you go along, its a blessing. Sounds like you are a very involved loving mother , keep up the good work.

Every baby has a different personality. Don't worry, she knows her mommy. You are lucky that she is so well adjusted!
