Normally ordained ministers do it. I don't think the Bible prohibits it. The only warning I see is that we have our hearts right to receive it. So I think it would be ok to give it to your Mom, following how it was done in the Bible in 1 Cor..

if you read 1corinthians 11:17-34 it talks about the Lords supper in detail. As for one giving communion to ones self, this is not right as we should recieve it from a fellow believer. In my denomination only the ordained minister presides over it but I believe any believer can do this and the place does not matter, it is more a case of examining ourselves and making sure we honor God in the process.
as I said above the place does not matter, the early church only meet in believers homes, so it's fine.

That depends on which Church you belong to. The way my church believes, communion is a simple remembrance of Christ's birth, and anyone can pray over/ preside over it as long as they are a believer. However if you are catholic, you would need to have the priest bless or consecrate (or something) the elements of communion.
I am not sure what other denominations teach.
My family has prayer and communion nights at home on occasion.

Sure, every Christian is a Minister of God. The idea of Communion is in the hearts of the believers. Study the Bible, pray, have a personal relationship with God the Father through His Son Jesus the Christ. I am an ordained Minister by the way.
God be with you,
William, a bond-servant of Jesus

Yes in the Chruch of Christ the men of the congregation share that duty no paid preacher. You should not do it at home but you do not need an ordained priest in a non-denominational church the Church of Christ is not a denomination it is a discription.

I have done this before and I know of others. Jesus said to do it in rememberance of Him, not that it has to be done in church with a minister or priest.
