I saw my cousin pull up in a car at a store, i was pulling down my window to say hi but i saw she was holding a lit cigarette. I pulled my window back up. My sister came and noticed she was smoking too, she told me not to tell because it's none of my business but i care about my cousin. she's already been caught once in the past and obviously been smoking since. should i keep it to myself or tell?

what i would do is directly talk to her, and warn her about the dangers of smoking. because she has been caught smoking, i think that it would not be 'ratting' her out by telling a trusted adult that she is at it agian. granted, you should talk to her first about it and if she doesnt listen, then go to the trusted adult. it also would not be a good idea to make it common knowledge that she is smoking like telling your friends and other family members. that will make her dislike you, and probably not trust you. but if you pick one trusted adult that you know will be able to get to her without making a big deal about it or letting her know that you told on her, then i think that that would be the mature thing to do. the important thing is to not make a huge deal out of it. while smoking is a serios matter, it would make her uncomfortable if you brought fire and brimstone on her for it, you know?

I would make her watch a video of someone with lung cancer or someone with emphysema. Or someone that has had their carotid artery cut open to clean it due to smoking. My husband did and he flat lined on the operating table. I know it doesn't seem like something that would ever happen to them when they are young, but it is very real! My dad died that way as well as my FIL, a best friend and her brother. My mother lives with emphysema. I have a friend with asthma triggered by smoke. All of these are smoking related. I use to smoke too. I was dumb and stupid. I didn't realize how bad it truely was. I quit cold turkey 10 years ago, but I know how hard it is to quit and how easily you can be addicted and how expensive it is. You think you can quit any time, but it ends up taking over your life! My daughter and her husband have just quit, but have had to use medication to do so. It may seem cool now, but believe me she will regret having started. She really doesn't realize the dangers. You are put in a predicament if you "squeal" on her. She will be mad, but it really will be for her own good. Then she may still smoke anyway just for spite. I don't know how old your cousin is but evidently the message hasn't gotten across to her if she was caught before. She may never change until it is too late, but you have done your part in caring for her. I would hand her this message and talk to her. Someday she will wish that she would have listened. Do her parents smoke too?

If you really care about your cousin and are concerned about the smoking, talk directly to her. Don't rat someone out because you feel it would help...talk to her first and see what she says. It is the respectful and mature thing to do.

If they caught her already then they probably suspect her. Also if her parents smoke theres no point in telling them because she sees them as hypocrites and isnt going to listen to them.

If you talk to your cousin tell her that you love her and is concerned about her health. It is up to her to talk to her parents.

leave her alone.

if her parents have no sense of smell, i guess they won't figure out she's smoking. non-smokers can smell cigarette smoke on someone a mile away.
