I am visiting Los Angeles for a week and I need to rent a car. I'm 20 years old and most rental places require that you be at least 21 or 25. I have found a few places that said they would allow me to rent a car if I have insurance that fully covers it, and of course, my insurance doesn't! I've been to LA many times and used buses, taxi's and whatnot, but this time I wanted to try a rental car. Anybody know any places that would allow this? Thanks :)

When I was planning a trip to LA a while back I found these rental car companies that rented to under 21 year olds.

@west - http://www.bnm.com/atwestla.htm
- http://www.atwest-rentacar.com/
A-one - http://www.aonerentacar.com/
AA'A - http://www.aa-arentacar.com/index.html

I never used any of these, I was planning a trip with a group of friends. We never ended up going. But it's atleast worth a try to check out.

Hi both are bad ideas to be honest for several reasons you would find it too expensive to rent a car as you are under 25 years old, then an old car such as the classic old shed would let you down. now what is the best option well how about an old land rover, easy to maintain and get spares for. but buy one with a hard top canvas tops have a way of leaking.an older one you can also get a roof tent for too. so sleeping on the roof as well as inside could be a good idea if it is 4 of you. an older model insured third party will be a lot cheaper too. one life live it boys 4x4 with guts.

Sometimes the places at the airport are a bit more flexible and will rent to those under 25, that's assuming you have a credit card, and agree to a daily fee for being allowed to rent.

Be sure to take the supplemental insurance they offer too.

Renters must be a minimum of 21 years of age to rent a standard car.

Underage fees do apply to renters between the ages of 21-24. Renters under the age of 25 are not permitted to rent oversized vans, large SUVs or luxury cars.

Cars may be rented to renters under 21 years of age under special circumstances.

You may be able to rent a car if you pay for the additional damage waiver (12-14 per day) on top of the cost of the rental car and taxes.
