My kitten is named Noah. (No-uh) All he loves to play with is a piece of thick string that i throw around so he can play. Are there any other ideas instead of buying some at petco or petsmart? Like creative ones?

cardboard boxes,
paper bags,
newspaper (in a ball)
foil balls
string hanging from stuff
stretchy stuff with something tied to the end
cat nip
pen caps
bottle caps
anything that makes a sound when on tile
bells
thread (the wheel not the actual thread)
beads
a toy mouse that rattles (mine both love this, and they make ones that are tied to the end of a 'fishing pole' so you go 'fishing' for your cat with a fake mouse as bait)
baby toys (that rattle, roll, make sound or flash)
and last but not least:

Your hands and feet!

my kittens favorite toy did come from the store, its one of those circles where the cat hits the ball and it comes back to them, and have the scratcher in the middle.

I have a little fuzzy mouse-like thing that is on the end of an elastic cord that my kitten goes crazy over. I just drag it around the house and he will chase it. I also have a little thing that has cat toys suspended in the air by wires. (He doesn't play with that very much) But my kitten also REALLY enjoys string and such. Make SURE that you don't leave the string laying around when you are not there or watching him. Your kitten might eat it. If you do find your cat with part of the string already inside him, DO NOT PULL IT OUT!! That could cut his digestive system. Take him to the vet to get it removed.

my cats have always liked paper bags laying about to hide in...i also put a toy mouse on the end of an ice fishing pole (with the hook off, lol) and cast the mouse down the hallway to fish for kitties while i slowly reel it back in...shoestrings tied to doorknobs with a toy on the end...shoebox with the lid taped on and a hole cut in it and a ball of scrunched up aluminum foil thrown inside...another 3-month old kitten, lol, they do well in pairs...

make sure any string you use is thick - please don't let him play with thread. one of my cats years ago nearly lost a paw when she got a piece of thread wrapped around her paw. it was invisible because the fur covered it, so we didn't see a problem until the next day when her paw was about 4x its normal size. so stick with yarn or shoestring sized stuff to keep things safe.

kittens (especially 4-6 month old ones so give it some time) think everything is a toy so good luck and have fun!

Bottle tops.
Mine just love pens. They knock them on the floor and bat them around. Then watch the beagle pick them up and chew them on the furniture, LOL.
paper bags left around with the tops rolled to help them stay open.
Any old stick, even a pencil, with an old string belt from a blouse or bathrobe tied on it. Something too heavy to swallow but flexible enough to make a pole toy of it. Try tying different kinds of knots in it and watch them untie it.
An old sheet over a chair, like a play tent for a child.
A small rug or towel smooth on the floor in a spot where you won't slip on it. When you find it all scrunched up, put it smooth again. Several times a day.

A ball of yarn or a homemade scratching post (you can make these out of cardboard or old carpetrugs), even a long piece of string that you could twirl around and the cat can go after like lanyard or string like you did, or even a small rubber ball he can chase after.

I got a squishy ball from a novelty shop for my kitties- and they loved it!

At the same shop, I also found a ball that twittered and blinked when it rolled. That was also entertaining.

Some time ago, I crocheted an afghan and had an extra square left. Another kitty adopted that as her toy.

Then there are the reliable paper wads!

cats also tend to like paper that has been crumples up and thrown to them. Just ordinary paper or newspaper. Don't use foil!!
I also like to play with a flashlight, be careful not to shine it in his eyes but on the floor where he will run after the circle of light.

Take a piece of aluminum foil and make it into a really tight ball and throw it around, he'll love swating and running after it!

pet store toys are very over priced and alot of cats wont even play with them. Mine tend to like household items like the rings from the plastic milk jugs, toilet paper or paper towel cardboard rolls, a tennis ball, balls of paper, the only toy they seem to like from the pet store is those little mice that you toss. they play with those for hours.

Piece of thread...homemade oranments (it is x-mas) or anykind of ball thing you might have around the house...laser pointer if you have it on hand...feathers from a feather duster (if you have one)...ect... try doing a google search, might turn up something interesting.
