they do in some states.
and there are good jobs that don't drug test.

Since the airline pilots were drunk, do they test them? I feel they should test doctors and nurses, because the temptation and access to use drugs is there. Do you want a nurse on speed or a doctor that is abusing meds to see or operate on you. The drug thing is a joke as most of the drug people that are on probation use drugs and then have figured out how many days they need to stop before going in or use herbal cleaners. So there is a way around it. You may want to ask that question. The fact that welfare also includes health insurance, I know someone on it and they told me why shold they get a job at a store making minimum wage, when it would take $50-60,000 to equal what they are getting. tAke care.

Um, what does this have to do with immigration?
In order to qualify for welfare, you need to have children (nearly always). The "benefits" of welfare are a home and food. AFDC was replaced with TANF which enforced an entirely new set of rules and requirements for recipients - including a lifetime maximum. As such, to deny a person food or a home would deny a child of home & food.
IF the welfare program were to monitor such a thing, not only would be expensive and difficult to maintain, but, they would have to be able to offer programming for rehabilitation of addicts. Sadly, many state budgets simply don't allow for this. In Wisconsin, there are many places that low-income criminal addicts can go if they are male. THERE ARE NONE for females, unless they can private pay. There are holes in all of these laws and in the system. The sad thing is that mothers lose their children here often because they can't kick their habit on their own. They are just re-institutionalized but offered no help whatsoever.
If there were adequate facilities and children wouldn't be left homeless or hungry, I would embrace your idea. Unfortunately, with the state of affairs right now, I can't.....

I believe people on welfare sometimes take too much advantage of things we give them. I do agree that all people should have to have drug test to keep the work place safe. I suppose a lot of the reason people are on welfare is because they can't get jobs because of drug and alcohol abuse. Catch 22 you know. Another reason they don't want to work. they are too lazy. That only for the ones that don't have any reason not to work.

In my state you do... you have to go down every 6 months and take a drug and alcohol test.. I don't get welfare but my sister use too, and I use to have to take her down to the Health Dept every 6 months for her tests
