Why or why not?

The place we bought the tv said we needed a special one. The tv is a 60" Sony Bravia.

Well, for the electrical,,,,, but you have more. TV surge protectors have connectors for the signal cable. Some are specified for satellite. A regular cable surge protector will reduce a Satellite signal a little, so be sure it's a satellite surge protector for your satellite dish

Check the surge protector's specifications on the package. Get one with the correct rating. But I think if it's rated for a computer it will probably be okay for a TV.

If you have a computer surge protector like mine, with a battery backup, I would say yes. After all it handles the computer and the monitor so it should handle the TV, as long as not too much is plugged into it also.

A surge protector protects electronic devices from power surges during bad weather or "dirty power" conditions. A computer, like your TV, is an electronic device, so yes!

Yes, ANY surge protector is going to LIMIT damage from a storm....

And you really don't need a $200 unit....

A $50 unit with an "insurance policy against damage" is all you need.....

A surge protector is a surger protector. You can use it.
