This is highly up for debate but I grew up in a Roman Catholic household. I learned growing up that the church is not against homosexual people rather they are against the homosexual acts. Homosexual people are welcome in the church if they wish to remain celebate.

Is this true? Is the Catholic Church only against homosexual acts?

That seems to be the public line. Celibate homosexuals are welcome.

As the old saying goes: "Love the sinner, hate the sin".
Homesexuals deserve our respect and love just like any other human does. But, homosexual SEX is gravely disordered, and it is a mortal sin.
Sex is for a married couple: A Man and a Woman. Anything that does not fall into that catagory violates the divine law and is a sin. That is a fact, and all the political correctness in the world cannot change it

I agree with your family. I would have to say no, to the rest of your question. I have friends that are openly gay, openly Catholic, and they are not shunned from church or their families. I believe this stems from knowing the true teachings of Jesus, love one another, and being above ignorance and hatred of others for being what they themselves are not.

So, what's a 'homosexual' act (Gay Act) in contrast to a 'heterosexual' act, assuming you're referencing sexual behavior. I'm not aware that homosexual people engage in any 'acts' which are not also engaged in by heterosexual people.

Aren't they just obeying "god's" word, as written in the bible? Isn't the loving and forgiving "god" against homosexuality? Aren't the Catholics just obeying "god's" word??

That they except celibate gays is my estimation. Look at the wide number of gay/lesbian people in holy orders.

It is the "sin" that they are against. All sex outside of marriage is sin.
