'You can have a boyfriend, but you can't date until your sixteen'?
I've asked her, but she just thinks I'm trying to be funny.

that what we English students call an "oxymoron"
its a self-contradictory phrase that is meant to be "sarcastic" (another English word!)

Means you can have a boyfriend but can't actually go out on a real date until you turn 16.

Like dates where it's only you and him going out.

It does seem to contradict itself as the conventional way of having a boyfriend or girlfriend requires people to date. Honestly, it sounds like she's deliberately contradicting herself so you can't have date until she feels she's ready to let you. In other words, you can't have a boyfriend until 16, but if you find a way to get a boyfriend without dating, then you can have one.

I think she means you can have a boyfriend and see him at school, school functions, maybe going out with a group of friends, etc. But you cannot go on actual dates until you are 16.

My mom says this too. She says that this means that I can go to school and have him be considered my boyfriend, you know, hold hands and stuff, but that she doesn't want me to go out on an actuall date with him like to the movies or anything.
Hope I helped.

I think she means you can't actually go out on dates. Maybe she's okay with group dates and having, like, a school boyfriend?

Honestly, that is the same thing to me. If anything dating is less serious than having a boyfriend. I would say your best bet is to seriously sit her down, and ask her what she means. Ask her what the difference is in her opinion. Hope it helps...

you can run around, being 13 or 14 or whatever and call you little friends from school your "boyfriend" or whatever, but going out on DATES, like with guys in cars who just want to get you drunk and have sex, that's another thing.

To soothe your mothers nerves, tell her you have already blown a couple of guys and are maybe not a virgin. Then she will likely allow you to go since she has nothing to protect anymore.
