places with more fat deposits will hurt less than those places that are closer to the bone. but if it really hurt that bad, do you think so many of us would have tattoos?
I have one that goes down my spine, and it wasnt that bad.

None ... a needle goes into your skin hundreds + times hurts to some degree... Your body kicks in natural hormones after a little bit that can make people freak out. Just have to focus on something else and stay calm. The temporary pain is part of it. Fattier areas tend to be less painful while spots like wrists, necks, ankles, so forth, that are really close to bone or totally flush to it tend to hurt more as their is less padding. The only way to judge pain is to get one. You don't do a tattoo ... you get a tattoo from a professional, eat a good meal before hand and don't take any pain killers before hand. It's their job, they know what they are doing if you go to a good artist. If you want one think it through, save up, do the research on artists and shops, and suck it up. The pain goes away, healing is the worst part but in the end ... tattoos are addicting and most people end up getting more. One of my friends has several tattoos and a son, she said that getting her tattoo was like having her son in a way. The pain fades from your memory, you want to do it again and know it will hurt all over again, but in the back of your mind you remember how it was brief while worth it. Don't let your friends reaction freak you out, if you can kind of zone out you will be fine.
-My ankle tattoo hurt more than the one twice as long and almost twice as wide running along my spine. It wasn't bad at all for either, I plan on doing it again some time when it's right and I have the money.

Like the first poster said all tattoos are goign to hurt some and some areas are more sensitive than others, obviously any area that is boney is going to hurt the most or any area that doesn't get exposed to the sun much (toughens it)...Also depends on your personal pain tolerance and the size and detail of the design

I have a lot of tattoos on my body, really I think that there is only one painless spot;
Behind the ear lobe
I got a cute star right there last year
it may sound like it hurts, but it really doesn't, trust me.

the least painful spot that i've had tattooed was my thigh. i have a piece on my right thigh that took about 5 - 5 1/2 hours worth of work. it was hardly painful. i spent most of the time just watching the artist do his thing.

You want somewhere with alot of flesh and not alot of bone (upper or lower arm perhaps)
if its your first tattoo id advise getting a little one done first, to see how you react to the pain.

Everywhere on your body will hurt some. Some spots will hurt less then others.
For me, the least painful areas were - on my upper arm, lower arm (not on my wrist, on the other side), and hip.
Most painful were - feet, back, and ribs.
