You might be wise to call the three credit reporting agencies and make them aware of this also - they can flag your file so that nobody but you can use the info to get more credit in your name.
Also call the social security office and request a new card, and let them know the old one was stolen.
Watch all of your credit card bills for the next couple months to be sure nothing slips through.

Have you filed a police report yet - if not - do so immediately - everything else you try to do afterwards depends on the fact that you filed one.
File a report with the FTC - thier identity theft hotline number is 1-877-IDTHEFT (438-4338) or contact them by mail at : Identity Theft Clearinghouse, Federal Trade Commission, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20580
The FTC publishes free brocheres and you can get more info on this by visiting http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/consumer.shtm
Calling the SSA and telling them that you SSN was stolen doesnt do you much good unless you can show that it was being used somewhere - they will just issue you another card with the same number - you will have to show that your identity was stolen - and that requires proof such as getitng new credit cards in your name - and that is more effectively backed up with a police report.
You should cancel all credit cards - get new cards with new numbers - if they are the same old numbers this does you no good. Fo rth enext three months watch your credit statement - when the bills come in be sure that everything on them is something you bought - if its not then someone is using your old cards and the credit company is still acting as if it s active - dispute any charges - show prove that the card was stolen with the police report and the issuance of the new cards
Monitor your credit activity - credit reporting agencies are not in control of anything - they ONLY report what i sbeing done - you will need to dispute ANYTHING that is not right
If you dont need or use any department store or bank accounts - close them out
Get a new drivers licence - with a different number
Call all your utility companies and let them know what happen in case soem tries to get these on in thier house under your name
Call you insurance company an dlet them kno wwhat happen in case someone gets in an accident and tries to claim its your car with your insurance
Call your local election people and get a new card issued
Call your health insurance company in case someone tries to get medical care in your name
Call your local blockbusters and video stores that you use and let them know in case someone tries to get movies in your name - update your account with your new credit card info etc
Call your local gyms and let them know so new cards can be issued and thier databases updated to cancel your old accounts
Call your bank - let them know what happen - get a new account - move all your funds to the new accoutn - close out the old account
Make duplicate copies of everything - include contact numbers etc in the event this happens again in the future.
Hope this helps - if you still need more info drop me a line with detials and I will see what I can come up with

It's good that you have canceled your credit cards, contact the credit bureaus and put a notation on your credit reports that your id and social security card have been lost and that they contact you personally before opening any new credit accounts, and get a service that you can monitor your credit with so you can check it regularly to make sure no one opens anything in your name.
