Take a baby care class. They are often offered at the hospital, or where you take prenatal classes.

Money saver tip: Just because they sell it and it has a baby on it does not mean you need it. Stuff like the calming milk bath stuff and baby bath towels and washrags, etc is a waste of money. You're towels work just fine and they're thicker than baby ones which keeps the baby warmer. The milk bath stuff doesn't do anything that Johnsons baby wash doesn't already do for like 3 bucks cheaper. Start with really cheap diapers and work up. Some cheap diapers are not good, but usually the lower mid-range ones are really good. And they're like 8 bucks cheaper than huggies. Some babies get gas, upset stomach, and spit up alot more on certain formulas. If you notice this try switching, the docs will tell you it's normal. If's not, if the babies tummy is hard, then the formula is not digesting right. Babies are more resilient than they appear. Don't bother with so many fancy outfits, cause even though they're cute, they're a waste of money. One babies frow fast, two, all the baby will do is spit up on it or something and then you'll have to change them 10 minutes after you put it on. Creepers/crawler/onesies are extremely useful. Don't bother with booties. Again they're cute but useless. Socks do just as good and they don't misshape your baby's feet.

You are already showing initiative - keep reaching out to people and making the most of your virtual and actual community. Take lots of Hand-Me-Downs and used stuff. Make friends with moms in the neighborhood and pass clothes along to smaller babies when you are done with them. There is NO REASON to get all these things new when you will use it for 3 months. Save that money for the kid's education! You will need a bouncy chair and or a swing for the first few months - find a used one if you can. One thing to maybe buy new is the pillow called My Brest Friend. Its a breastfeeding pillow that snaps onto you and makes life soooo much easier for the first few weeks. I found it essential to breastfeeding success. Try to accept all the help that is offered to you and dont feel like you have to control everything all the time (like i did and exhausted myself for no reason) listen to your baby and relax and enjoy. try to surrender to the baby's sleep schedule - the more sleep you get the better mommy you can be! good luck! xoxoxo

Being a new mom is exhausting; remember to take naps when the baby does. You don't have to be super mom; its not necessary to get everything done. Most important is that you and the new born are taken care of. Leave the house keeping and cooking or delegate it someone else until you and the baby get into a routine.

1. BREATHE - and not just in the delivery room!

2. Let your friends and family help you. Don't be afraid to let other adults babysit for you - especially your own mom or MIL. Remember - they're moms too, and even though their experience may seem outdated, you and your child's father came out just fine.

3. Clothes and toys don't have to be new - just clean. Hand-me-downs, flea markets/yard sales, and thrift stores are just as good as Macy's, and cost a LOT less.

4. Have faith in yourself. You'll be a better parent than anyone will ever give you credit for.
