The thought of it makes me very thirsty.

Edit:

@ Jim M -- it wasn't shortly afterwards - it was thirty two years later at a small evangelical meeting in the US, 5,000 miles from Darwin's home in Kent. Somehow, Lady Hope had forgotten to mention Darwin's deathbed conversion to anyone until then.

1. He didn't.
2. The modern theory of evolution is not wholly dependent on Darwin's work. In the 150 years since Darwin there has been a mountain of evidence to support evolution.

Although I have not extensively researched the life and times of Charles Darwin, I heard this recanting is actually a lie made up by a Christian attempting to discredit the theory evolution. That sounds more believable to me than him renouncing his life's work on his deathbed.

Well
1) That is 100% lie told by a religious woman who never entered Darwin's home let alone came anywhere near his deathbed
2) Darwin's Daughter who WAS at deathbed said in response to the filthy lie that Darwin NEVER recanted.

I find that generally the theists who accept such a badly conceled lie tend to think it is ok to rape, kill , torture and lie as long as you are doing it "for God"...which of course proves that the theists who do so actually worship Satan and all the darkness of the universe. I would assume these people also like to eat babies while they are still alive.

1) It never happened, this is a myth.
2) What anyone believes only has relevance to science if there is evidence to support that belief. Darwin, Newton or any major theorist recanting has nothing to do with whether or not what they claimed previously is true, unless they can show their mistake.

It never happened. Shortly after Darwin's death, Lady Hope told a gathering that she had visited Darwin on his deathbed and that he had expressed regret over evolution and had accepted Christ. However, Darwin's daughter Henrietta, who was with him during his last days, said Lady Hope never visited during any of Darwin's illnesses, that Darwin probably never saw her at any time, and that he never recanted any of his scientific views

He can recant all he likes but we all know he was right. His theories gain more credibility as time goes on just as the religious view keeps getting less credible.

this is an indication of how christians work... once someone is dead and can't defend themselves... for Darwin posed a threat to them in his day... introducing to humanity TRUTH which is something christians despise... The christians LIE, to make it seem as if they had the power to influence a man who wouldn't give in while he was living... Christians LIE, to sway human opinon in their favor.... and eventually they expect people to beleive the christians lie so that they may taint Darwins legacy to the world....

He didn't.
While I don't believe Darwin's theory, I don't think this kind of thing will help because most people know it is not true. It's a popular story that has been going around.
Some of the great evolutionists have made comments referring to their frustration about lack of proof though.

If it happened, it would not take away from the validity of the science behind natural selection and evolution. Atheist base their ideas on reason. We do not worship people.
