I have two kittens, they are about 8 or 9 weeks old. I just saw some fleas on them, yuck. I went out and bought some Frontline. So they each have some now, but my question is...how long does it take effect? And will one dose work for a while if they are inside? I know it's once a month, but what do you think, for a kitten? Thank you!

I think it takes about 2-3 days to kill most of them.Frontline is by far the best treatment.
1 dose will work for a month so each month apply it on the same date, i'm sure it's fine to apply it like this for kittens because i do and my kitten is healthy and flea free.Evan if they are indoors cats, fleas and there eggs can live for a long time in carpets, rugs and other places so give your home a good clean and maybe think about a flea bomb for your home.
But as long as you keep giving your cats frontline the fleas will die after feeding on them,so after about 6 months the hidden fleas and there eggs around your home will die out and your home will be flea free like my home!
Good luck

Should be once a month, if that is what they say. Fleas lay eggs after they get their blood meal from the cat on the floors, under carpets, etc They especially like damp, dark places. The eggs can survive for a really long time waiting for the right conditions to hatch. So if you take extra care to vacuum and mop with a disinfectant, all the areas where fleas can hid; together with the fleas meds' you should be able to get rid of them. Most of these flea meds' also work by making the egg shells thinner and softer, so that the larva cannot survive. So you can break any cycle from occurring in your home. I hope this does not put you off loving your cats. I have four cats, the oldest is 11 years old, and I do not have any problems with fleas, when I use the methods I mentioned together with a good flea remedy.

Frontline will kill off any fleas and eggs, but it is only one step in resolving the problem. The problem with fleas is that they'll not only infest your cats, they'll infest your home! Be obsessive about cleaning until the problem is resolved. Make sure to vacuum carpets, furniture, etc on a daily (or every other day) basis. Wash any towels, or bedding that your cats may sleep on. Don't over do the Frontline. It's safe for cats, but is still a medicine and you should adhere to the one application a month guidelines. If straight vacuuming isn't working, you can also try flea powder (for carpets) or flea bombs. Just make sure that they're safe for your kittens to be around first! Good luck!

Frontline can be safely used on kittens and nursing mothers, thank heaven! Before Frontline, you had to carefully bathe them and use a flea comb--hopeless and dangerous (kittens can get chilled so easily).
If you put a white towel down on their bed, the night after you put the Frontline on, that towel will be loaded with dead and dying fleas. It's fabulous stuff.
If the kittens are your only pets and they stay indoors, you might not need to use it again, otherwise you can apply it in a month (no sooner). I wait until I see a flea again before I reapply.
Be sure to get them spayed or neutered when they are big enough (most vets will do it if the kittens weigh at least two pounds).

when I had little ones with fleas, I used to bathe them in scratchex.
That frontline stuff is kinda harsh for kittens and though they say it's safe, I still wouldn't use it on babies.
I'm not sure how long it takes to take effect, but if you're not seeing results in a day or 2, I'd stop using it and look into alternative methods.
I've heard garlic works. If your cat will eat it, cook some garlic and slip it into kitty's food. You'll want to overcook it a little so it won't be so strong. Maybe half a clove or so, then mash it up and mix it with some wet food.
The garlic will make kitty's blood unpalatable for fleas and they'll search elsewhere for hosts.

So long as you got it all on the kitten's fur it will kill all the fleas on them within 24 hours. If you still see alive, lively fleas after that time it means you need to spray your house too.
Indoor cats are not safe from fleas, so they need to be dosed as often as outdoor cats.
