I have to reset my PS2 like 50 times to play any game new or used! It just says "Disc Read Error." What can I do, I cant afford a new Playstation. It is the old, thick kind. It is black, if that helps.

That's probably a lens problem. It wears off with time. Try cleaning it (professional way to clean - especial spray from electronics store, home way - alcohol and Q-tips, the 2nd way can damage the lens). If cleaning won't help - the lens needs to be replaced. PS2 parts aren't expensive now.

I had an original PS2, after a few years, it simply wouldn't play ANY Compact Disk games anymore and I got the "disc read" error you mention. I even attempted manually cleaning the lens but it didn't make any difference. However, it still plays DVD games fine.
