Roman Catholic churches are so elaborate, and serious looking. Think St. Pat's in NYC.

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim - In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Hello. I prefer a simple place of prayer. I am more interested in the spiritual "feel" of a place than the adornments. I have prayed in breathtakingingly beautiful mosques in Egypt and very simple mosques there and here in the US. The best are the ones where the other worshippers are humble and sincere. There was one nice simple mosque in a city called 6 October in Egypt. I was up in the women's balcony in line to pray with the other women. The men were downstairs. When the Imaam (prayer leader) recited the first chapter of the Qur'an, he said "Ameen" after and all the worshippers said "Ameen" as well. That AMEEN resounded beautifully in the open and simple space. It really made my heart swell.
Ah, memories. God willing I'll get back to Egypt some day....
May Allah guide you to the best in this world and the next. Ameen.
Fi Aman Allah,
Nancy Umm Abdel Hamid

What a great question!
I go to synagogue, I've attended several and inevitably, some are more enjoyable than others.
Reform synagogues, which are more relaxed, are great because there, men and women sit together, so families can enjoy the service together.
But then again, there are some beautiful and very atmospheric Orthodox synagogues also; men and women sit separately, which I don't like, but the actual architecture and atmosphere can be more..... intense? Not the best word, but I think you'll know what I mean :)
Some synagogues have choirs, which can be fab.
I look forward to reading all your other answers. Have a star for a lovely post :)

Well I've spent time in many places of worship because I was baptised a Lutheran but my father is Jewish. I've also spent alot of time in the Middle East and have been to many Mosques. Honestly the thing that makes me feel the most in church is being at the one I grew up in and knowing the people around me. Design and the overall look of a place of prayer isn't necessarily important. It's how you feel about the people around you.

I love the Notre Dame Cathedral! (the one in France).
The size, "archeturial" style, and interior design is breath taking!
The only thing that makes me feel like I'm in a place or worship is the Holy Spirit

I like the really old churches. With the stained glass windows. One long centre isle. The ones that are picture perfect for weddings. Lots of real wood etc. Really well made.

A forest, whose trees provide a living lesson of nature, multidimensional pillars under a green canopy. Nature provides a close connection with the divine. No limits to the experience.

has to be very simple, nothing to draw the eye. The structure should in all ways take a back seat to the event. I always felt like fancy and extravagant places of worship was borderline idolatry.

Anything like this. With no images, built in a classic Arab style, with the name of Allah the justice maker in the main altar, and incense urns.

Personally I prefer non denominational military chapels. After all a church is anyplace one prays.
