I see questions & answers designed to provoke "hate"... people who act in this way cannot be spiritual in my opinion.

What's your opinion ?

I believe that the religious "truism" is :"to hate the sin but not the sinner"

I'll concede then that to hate "injustice, bigotry, ..." can be part of a "spiritual persons" makeup.

But I still maintain that a person who "Hates" others cannot be spiritual.

In my experience the opposite of Love is Indifference... not Hate. In a relationship one who hates is still dancing to the relationship... although they are dancing on the ugly side of that relationship.

Sure. Apparently, all you have to do is say you're sorry to God and that makes it all better...

People are complex. As also are their motivations.

"Spiritual" (to me) is too vague a word. If you mean that can they try to elicit "hatred" and still be "good"people I am not sure. Probably not.

But my opinion is worth little here. I ask questions (once so far) and have made replies (several times) to provoke controversy. But it was not to provoke hate but perhaps to ferrit it out.

And I abhore people who relinquish all attempts to apply critical thinking to what they "believe."

You stated: "I believe that the religious "truism" is :"to hate the sin but not the sinner"

I do not believe that in practice this is possible! Being gay I have been too many times a "victim" of people "hating the sin." In effect I also am hated.

Hate should not be directed at people, but it is not a lower emotion. Hating the right thing is important, if we are ever going to have positive change in this world. You must hate injustice, and abusive behavior. No emotion in itself is bad, it is the improper use of the emotion that causes trouble. Or the addiction to an emotion.

Sure. I do it all the time. What is hate? Merely means to "love less"; it's not the total withholding of love. Where do you think the phraseology "loveless" came from, as in "He's a loveless bastard"? I just love some people less than others. I do that on my own: I don't let others provoke that in me. I am quite capable of loving and hating.

I agree. People seem to think that Hate is the opposite of Love. Not true, its still a highly emotional response. You have to care to hate. Indifference is the true opposite. Hate is usually an expression of fear. Which shows an extreme lack of faith. Ironic, if you think about it.

Hi edzerne,

I don't know what you think about the Bible but here are David's words in Psalm 31:6, "I hate those who cling to worthless idols; I trust in the LORD." I don't think that a person who hates is necessarily unspiritual.

At the moment there is that air of Hate (out of the ordinary), this will be eradicated from my presences in 8 days.

I AGREE COMPLETELY!

These people who spew hell hate fire and brimstone are the worst of the worst.

They are the ugly face of religion, the savage guard dogs barking at the church door, keeping the sheep inside and spraying us with venomous spittle.

What is worse is that they blame it all on their God!

Most amazing to me is that they always know what God wants! Isn't that incredible!

They know what God says. (The WOOOORRRD*!)
They know who God loves.
They know who God hates (charming).
They know that God is going to punish us (eeek)
They know that the bible was not a thing invented by men ages after JC had croaked it.

* Re "the WOORRD", I think if they shut up long enough to let him speak for himself, God would probably say "Shut up you morons!"

You have to pick your shots on Hate, there are times to hate for sure, like if someone was trying to kill you, but hate without a cause for good is bad :)

Ecc 3:8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

I think there are spiritual people that have been hurt and disappointed and because of this they lash out. This is not the right way to handle their feelings, but we are all human. We need to forgive and pray for those that are hurting.

people who are spiritual are constantly being exposed to the lies of religion ..... you damn right we can hate for there are many who deserve hate and so much more out there.... Just because the religious are capable of hypocrisy is just another example of how non spiritual they really are....
