My license and registration were suspended b/c my auto insurance lapsed. I went to the DMV today and picked up my receipt to learn that my registration is suspended until Aug '08. I can get a restricted license on Tuesday but apparently I am not allowed to drive my car. Is there away around this because what is the point of having your license if you don't have a car to drive? I didn't know if anyone knew of some NYS law or something that I could do so I could at least operate my vehicle. Please Help!!!!

In NYS it is mandatory to have insurance. After 90 days it lapses. If you are pulled over you're kinda screwed. They tow your car, u pay the impound, fees, it's just a mess...I had left the country on a family emergency only to find out my insurance lapsed b/c i thought i had auto debit set up. So once it lapses, you have to serve your suspension. Because I went in on good faith, chances are I will get a restricted or conditional liscense. But because they suspended my registration, I can't drive the vehicle. Unless my car is re-registered under a different name but I don't know how that works or if it's even legal in this state. Lucky u in california, I wish all i had to do was pay a fine...would be easy enough...but if anyone knows anything, it is greatly appreciated because I don't have an extra car laying around in my yard...also can I lease a car on a restricted/conditionaly liscense?
