It sounds to me like you never set a rate with her, you just took what she "gave" you. Sit her down, ask your mom to sit in with you if you are uncomfortable, and tell her that you don't think what she is paying you is fair, and tell her what you are going to be charging her in the future. Do the talking yourself, don't let your mom do it for you, unless this woman starts to get hostile toward you. Remember, YOU are providing her a service. She isn't "GIVING" you money, you are EARNING it, and if she doesn't want to pay you what is fair, there are plenty of other people who will.

Also, what the heck is she doing that you are watching her kids until 2 in the morning?

that is really low. the minimum wage in New York is $7.15 an hour.
I know it's really hard asking for more money, but you have to do it.
I think they are taking advantage of your too good nature.
I think you should ask for and deserve $30.00 for the 6 hours you put in. Even that is too low.
Don't be afraid to ask whatever you do, they are not afraid to hand you a lousy $10 bill.

I suggest you get some balls of steel and just tell her how you feel. Sit her down the next time she drops them off, and tell her that you think you should be getting more. If she has a problem with it; she can take them someplace else....
This is the time in your life where you learn to stand up for yourself. With hard work comes rewards, shoo...thats in the bible! I would have my mom sit in with me as well if I were you

in simple terms ask them and say that as i become outdated i'm able to do extra stuff like bake cookies with them or tension them to the coastline and that's extra artwork on my section so i think of that I would desire to get a small develop.

hmmmmmmmmmm you could tell them a fib and say someone else wants you to sit and is willing to pay you X amount whatever you feel is more fair) but say you are torn cos the money is good but you like the kids you are sitting for now...............
it could go two ways, they find someone else that is willing to do it cheap or they offer you more money to stay with them

Tell them that you have another job lined up who pays better and that if they want to keep you they will have to offer more.

next time they ask you to watch the children you can say " yes, but this is what i charge" than its up to them to deiced if they want to pay you that or look elsewhere. they are wanting to take advantage of you and you should not allow it. stick up for yourself.
