How do you receive pink eye?

I was watching "Knocked Up" and they said that they got pink eye through farting on eachothers pillows. Do you really receive Pink Eye through another person's butt or poop particals?

This type of conjunctivitis is caused by an organism called Chlamydia trachomatis. This organism may also affect other parts of the body and can cause the venereal disease chlamydia .


Allergic conjunctivitis

Allergic conjunctivitis is common in people who have other signs of allergic disease such as hay fever, asthma and eczema. The conjunctivitis is often caused by antigens like pollen, dust mites or cosmetics.


Reactive conjunctivitis - chemical or irritant conjunctivitis

Some people are very susceptible to chemicals in swimming pools or to smoke or fumes and this can cause an irritation of the conjunctiva with discomfort, redness and watering. In such cases these irritants should be avoided.

However there are bacteria in farts so i guess you could get it that way.

Pink eye is very contagious.
Usually passed through not washing hands, then touch their eyes, using the same towel after someone has had it, same wash cloth.

if you have your hands dirty and then touch your eye you could get it
i bet it was a joke on knocked up

Indeed, it can be caught by bad hygiene. But there are many more reasons. I think that getting bacterical eye infections like in Knocked Up is highly unlikely.

Usually it's gotten through smoking cannabis, although smoke and other particulate matter can irritate the conjuctiva and cause reddening, the characteristic appearance of pinkeye.
It's possible that farting could also do it, but it seems REALLY REALLY unlikely.

uh, no. if someone has it and touches somethign and then you touch it and then rub your eye you get it. best thing to do is wash your hands regularly and don't touch your eyes unless you have just washed your hands or used hand sanitizer.

so feel free to fart on each others pillows.
