Alright, I'm going to put it this way, in no matter what I do, no matter who's around me, whatever, I'm always intensely afraid of being wrong. A lot of times when I am wrong, I can't accept it, and I'll keep fighting to prove my point even though I know I look like an idiot. I've almost gotten into physical brawls over the smallest things. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on?

I've known people like that. I think it is a terrible burden to think you need to be right all the time. Why not say you think you might be right, but it you aren't you will admit it? People tend to take you more seriously when you don't see yourself as always right, and in fact you aren't always right and admit it. It has worked well for me. So much less pressure.

i have that exact problem too..its really hard to work things out with friends and family during fights when you cant admit to being wrong..

i think part of the problem is not wanting anyone to be right over you..like you have to always be right. It seems like you dont want to be looked down upon as the person who messes up. Its hard to get over this...ive tried before..but an easy way to start apolgozing and admitting that your wrong is to think-no one is perfect, everyone messes up..and make mistakes..people are going to forgive you and look past it if you sincerely apologize. If you act stubborn and wont admit to what you did...they arent going to want to be associated with you because they dont want to have to fight with you whenever you did something wrong.

You're identifying too closely with things you say. When your statements are contradicted it's like an assault on your very being, and when your statements are wrong it's almost like a kind of death.

Separate yourself somewhat from your statements, and even your intellectual thoughts. Those thoughts are not YOU, and whether they're right or wrong has no effect on the essense of your being. They're just words, don't identify with them.

i would guess it's pride and ego which we all have it takes practice learning to be humble and sometimes just let the other person be right (it can be an advantage if it's a female and u are male believe me!) anyways we all want to be right I think the question is what is the end payoff.

That's not Ridiculous, that's Scottish. You sound like any one of my Dad's Brothers. All of us, are always right, and if you disagree, you're full of CRAP. That, and they love to fight. You gotta be of Scottish ancestry.
